the department of history is pleased to support the 5th annual spotlight on academics film festival. along with films from around the world, the 2026 festival will be featuring films by or about members of the 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 community. the in-person version of the festival runs on thursday and friday evening from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and on saturday afternoon fro 1:00 pm to 5 pm. a larger online version of the festival runs for free on researchtv.ca from march 8 until march 15.

the department of psychology is pleased to host a hybrid talk titled "not soldier material: the war on 2slgbtqia+ members and their partners from the 1950's to the present" by visiting speakers, dr. carmen poulin (university of new brunswick) and dr. lynne gouliquer (laurentian university) on february 20, starting at 4 p.m., in the thunder bay senate chambers uc 1001.

the presentation provides an overview of an initial pan-canadian study which illustrates the devastating impact of the pre-1992 witch hunts by the canadian forces on service members and their families, and the follow-up findings revealing contemporary effects of serving for 2slgbtqia+ military members and their partners. an overview of the intersectional, qualitative feminist methodology, the psycho-social ethnography of the commonplace (p-sec), developed by dr. poulin and dr. gouliquer, will also be described in further detail.
