joint conference discusses northwestern ontario economic development

wednesday, oct. 23, 2013 – thunder bay, on

the 2013 canadian rural revitalization foundation’s (crrf) annual national conference will be held in thunder bay at the airlane hotel and conference centre from oct. 23-27.

hosted by the northwestern ontario municipal association, nishnawbe aski nation, and 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , the crrf will discuss new opportunities for growth while reigniting questions about regional development, resource management, governance and co-governance of resources at local and regional levels and with first nations, métis and inuit people.

“this conference will facilitate a conversation among community leaders, researchers, government, and private industry about these and other pressing questions facing rural canada,” said dr. rhonda koster, chair of the organizing committee and director/associate professor in outdoor recreation, parks & tourism at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 .

“i’m looking forward to robust conversations about economic development and discussions about how we can grow together with the various towns and communities in northwestern ontario,” dr. koster said.

in late september, the honourable greg rickford, minister for science and technology and fednor announced the northwestern ontario municipal association, nishnawbe aski nation and 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 were awarded $49,772 to host the 2013 canadian rural revitalization foundation’s national conference.

keynote speakers include dr. heather hall, postdoctoral fellow from the department of geography at memorial university in newfoundland; mpp romeo saganash (abitibi-baie-james-nunavik-eeyou); nishnawbe aski nation (nan) grand chief harvey yesno; nan deputy grand chief les louttit; dr. karen heisler, a specialist in territorial and jurisdictional issues arising from resource development in remote areas.
