artist statement

eco gnosis explores a particular thread of knowledge that is heart- and snake-centered. through sacred ritual i step into the mystery of copoietic inquiry. the healing impulse behind my art, trance and place based inquiry is to surrender to the sympathy of all things, to learn from and with the earth—a place of originary compassion.

barbara bickel, ph.d. is an artist, writer, researcher, and educator. she is an associate professor of art education emerita at southern illinois university, carbondale, and was core faculty at southwestern college, santa fe, nm in the phd program visionary practices and regenerative leadership. her art and arts-based writing strive to embody and live matrixal, earth-based feminist and indigenous worldviews that celebrate and embrace the sacred. www.barbarabickel.ca
