artist statement

fire. good fire? is an exploration of fire stewardship and indigenous fire practices using the art of carbon dust sculpting. it brings light to the growing concern not just of these ecological disasters, but to the idea that they might have been minimalized if we had only listened to the indigenous fire keepers and used their knowledge of fire-burning practices to better serve our earth. if we go back and engage the knowledge of indigenous fire keepers do we have a chance at healing our land?
