artist statement

these four pieces depict the holistic and dynamic realities of nurses’ lived experiences via the journey of crows and constructs of time/seasons, language/words, and shadow/light. the intention is to offer a common metaphor to create a conversation. the crows symbolize many dichotomous concepts of uncovering and recovering.

about the artists

created by registered nurses (rns) kristen jones-bonofiglio, jillian jurimae, cathy schoales, and michelle spadoni to represent the juxtapositions of contemporary, post-covid realities of nursing practice, research, education, and leadership. based on decades of scholarship on compassion, social norms, social identity, moral distress/injury, burnout, belonging, resilience, safety, and hope.
