the r&d partnership fund – c/av and smart mobility – stream 2 program supports projects related to the development, testing, validation, and demonstration of connected and autonomous vehicle (c/av) and smart mobility technologies in the following priority areas:

• mass light vehicles, such as cars, trucks, and vans
• heavy duty vehicles, including commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, recreational vehicles (rvs), and others used for goods movement
• transportation infrastructure
• intelligent transportation systems (its)
• transit-supportive systems and vehicles

the energy innovation program (eip) - national energy systems modelling call for proposals (“the call”) will fund projects that quantitatively model the role of innovative technologies in achieving emissions reductions and supporting canada’s net-zero emissions targets.

aligned with oerd’s commitment to driving innovation to accelerate canada’s clean energy transition, the mining decarbonization demonstration call (“the call”) will fund in-field demonstration projects aimed at providing real-world data to evaluate the effectiveness of innovative, low-carbon solutions at canadian upstream to midstream operations in the mining sector. the call will focus on these technology pathways: 1) mobile equipment, 2) stationary combustion sources, and 3) energy efficiency.

projects must address the following objectives:

• de-risk and accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies in canada’s mining sector that reduce upstream and midstream operational emissions;
• advance the commercialization of clean technology solutions to position canadian innovators as global leaders in mining sector decarbonization; and
• foster collaboration between clean technology developers and owners and/or operators of mining, milling, and/or smelting assets in canada.

the ontario ministry of transportation (mto) is pleased to announce the 2025 call for proposals for the road safety research partnership program (rsrpp) is now open. the rsrpp funds researchers in ontario’s broader public sector and non-profit organizations to conduct cutting-edge road safety research in support of ontario’s efforts to protect our road users and drive safety innovation forward.

mto is now accepting program submissions and invites you to apply using the attached application form. the deadline for submission is february 7, 2025, 11:59 pm est. please see the attached rsrpp guidelines for more information about this funding opportunity, including program eligibility criteria, application instructions, program reporting requirements, and priority research topics.  

the objective of hiifp is to encourage ontario’s academic community to research projects that contribute to generating solutions to current technical challenges encountered by mto in the construction and maintenance of the provincial highway infrastructure network. these research projects are funded through hiifp.

a diverse range of specific research topics have been developed by mto that outline: 1.) the background of the research requirement, 2.) the challenge or problem to be addressed, and 3.) the anticipated outcome and/or research deliverables.

the hiifp for fiscal year 2025-26 invites ontario's eligible institutions to submit research proposals. eligible institutions may select one or more research topics provided by mto or propose their own topics (i.e., open research topics).

sshrc has launched a new funding opportunity: destination horizon grants.  these grants are intended to support sshrc-eligible researchers whose primary affiliation is with an eligible canadian post-secondary institution, to build capacity, foster existing partnerships, and further develop networks and/or consortia with partners in the european union and other “associated countries”, with the ultimate goal of applying to horizon europe (he)—pillar ii calls with a collaborative proposal.  applications for the destination horizon grants are submitted on the sshrc convergence portal. 

all he pillar ii projects are implemented by an interdisciplinary consortium (partnership of organizations across different nations, which must include at least 3 partners (beyond canada, this must include a partner from at least one eu member state).  most he research consortia consist of 10-20 partners, and have one lead institution.

consortium partners can be legal entities engaging in breakthrough research, including

• academics
• industrial researchers
• small- to medium-sized enterprises
• non-profit and charity sector entities
• other research and innovation actors in canada

the purpose of this initiative is to assist canadian researchers in making the connections and developing the networks needed to successfully join a research consortium in preparation to apply to horizon europe.

funding:  sshrc will provide up to $15,000 for one year; 100% matching cash funds is required, for a total maximum funding of $30,000.  matching funds will be provided through the internal vpri international research partnership award mechanism for any applications selected and funded by sshrc. 

funds may be used for connection-type activities, including but not limited to:

• travel expenses for pi, co-investigators and collaborators (travel to europe or to canada)
• workshops or conferences
• networking
• proposal development
• team-building consultants

funds may not be used to conduct actual research activities.

eligibility & selection:  there are no merit criteria for selection.  all applications deemed eligible will be entered into a randomized selection process to determine awards. an eligible application that is not randomly selected for an award may be re-submitted for a future competition.

to be eligible for this funding opportunity, applicants must demonstrate:

• their eligible affiliation and primary affiliation in the social sciences or humanities;
• their readiness to further develop networks and/or consortia with eu and other associated countries’ researchers, with the ultimate goal of applying to a horizon europe—pillar ii call;
• eligible budget requests; and
• 100% matching cash contributions from the host institution.

sshrc’s competition is now open, with three deadlines in 2025 - the largest number of awards will be made from the first intake in early january, so it is strongly encouraged to submit for that intake.  any application that is submitted but not selected by sshrc may be re-submitted for the next round.

institutional selection and submission:  each post-secondary institution may only submit up to three destination horizon grant applications for a given deadline.  if more than 3 eligible applications are received for a given deadline, the office of the vpri will apply the same two-stage random selection process to select the applications that will be submitted.  therefore, a strict internal deadline will be treated as an expression of interest - at a minimum, a draft of the program description must be received by that date.  eois received after the eoi/internal deadline will not be considered for that round, but may be considered for the following round.  please submit a copy of the program description directly to either nicole westlund stewart or jill sherman.  if required, the selection process will take place within 24 hours and you will be notified asap if you can proceed to complete the application.

applications are submitted on the convergence portal.  for the purpose of this application, please note that lakehead is the "host" organization, and only one letter of support (from the vpri) is required.  (ignore the plural "letters" of support indicated in the application portal).

this funding opportunity follows the agreement signed by the government of canada and the european commission giving canada status as an "associated country" status (pillar ii only) and enables canadians to participate in horizon europe funding.

existing since march of 2001, brain star is a program of cihr’s institute of neurosciences mental health and addiction (cihr-inmha). brain star is administered under the institute community support grants and awards program and is designed to recognize the excellence of research done in canada by 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and trainees in all fields and disciplines covered by cihr-inmha.

the specific objectives of the brain star program are to:

in continued partnership, the canadian institutes of health research – institute of health services and policy research (cihr-ihspr) and canadian association for health services and policy research (cahspr) are pleased to launch the annual article of the year competition. the article of the year competition aims to recognize ground-breaking health services and policy research (hspr) published in the prior year in a peer-reviewed journal that has significantly contributed to the field of hspr. the recipient is honored with an award of $10,000, a certificate of excellence presented at the annual cahspr conference, and has the opportunity to present their article at a cahspr hspr talks webinar.

our grants support and encourage legal writing that is of value to canadian lawyers, notaries and judges in their day-to-day work in the law and in the administration of justice. our grants are generally in amounts greater than $5,000 and less than or equal to $15,000.
