call for joint canada-germany projects on hydrogen technologies

how to apply: 

the natural sciences and engineering research council of canada (nserc) is partnering with the german federal ministry of education and research (bundesministerium für bildung und forschung, bmbf) to fund collaborative research projects on hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. 

this competition aims to fund ten preliminary (one-year) projects. the proposals to nserc should not exceed can$50,000. all project expenditures are subject to the principles and directives governing the appropriate use of grant funds as outlined in the tri-agency guide on financial administration. you must follow the tri-agency open access policy, and you are also encouraged to make any publication data resulting from funded projects open access.

the current initiative is designed to fund preliminary (one-year) projects between canadian academic researchers and their counterparts in german academia and/or federal research institutes. it is expected that these projects will

  • provide training opportunities for canadian 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and postdoctoral fellows
  • provide opportunities for networking and interchanges between canadian researchers and their counterparts in germany
  • lay the groundwork for longer term collaborations that will help advance the development and deployment of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies

defense health program department of defense lung cancer research program: investigator-initiated translational research award

how to apply: 

the fy21 lcrp investigator-initiated translational research award mechanism supports translational research that will develop promising ideas in lung cancer into clinical applications. translational research may be defined as an integration of basic science and clinical observations. observations that drive a research idea may originate from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, or a clinician’s firsthand knowledge of patient care. the ultimate goal of translational research is to move a concept or observation forward into clinical application. however, principal investigators (pis) should not view translational research as a one-way continuum from bench to bedside. the research plan must involve a reciprocal flow of ideas and information between basic and clinical science.

defense health program department of defense lung cancer research program: clinical translational research partnership award

how to apply: 

the fy21 lcrp clinical translational research partnership award mechanism supports partnerships between clinicians and research scientists that will accelerate the movement of promising ideas in lung cancer into clinical applications. this award supports the development of translational research collaborations between two independent, faculty-level (or equivalent) investigators to address a critical problem or question in lung cancer in a manner that would be less readily achievable through separate efforts. one partner in the collaboration must be a research scientist and the other must be a clinician. in addition, one partner in the collaboration is strongly encouraged to be an active duty service member or federal employee from a department of defense (dod) military treatment facility or laboratory, or a department of veterans affairs (va) medical center or research laboratory. it should be clear that both have had equal intellectual input into the design of the research project. multi-institutional partnerships are encouraged but not required. at least one member of the partnership must have experience either in lung cancer research or lung cancer patient care. a proposed project in which the clinical partner merely supplies tissue samples or access to patients will not meet the intent of this award mechanism.

this mechanism is intended to support a pilot, proof-of-principle, or early-phase clinical trial and associated correlative science. a clinical trial is defined as a research study in which one or more human subjects are prospectively assigned to one or more interventions (which may include placebo or other control) to evaluate the effects of interventions on biomedical or behavioral health-related outcomes. it is expected that the proposed trial will have a welldeveloped rationale, strong preliminary data, trial methodology, and execution plan. any proposed preclinical studies in addition to the trial should be appropriately justified as to its necessity to inform and interpret trial results and the correlative science. if the proposed research would ultimately require u.s. food and drug administration (fda) investigational new drug (ind) and/or investigational device exemption (ide) submission, applications must demonstrate availability of, and access to, clinical reagents (e.g., therapeutic molecules) and patient population(s).

inovait spring 2021 funding round

how to apply: 
inovait is pleased to announce its upcoming canada-wide call for applications from industry and academic members for its first open round of pilot funding for collaborative research and development projects in the image-guided therapy (igt) and artificial intelligence (ai) space. the application period will open on monday, march 8.

inovait is a new pan-canadian network funded by the government of canada and hosted at the sunnybrook research institute with the objective of strengthening canada’s leadership in the igt sector by supporting and encouraging collaborative development and the integration of ai and data advances into medical technologies.

in this upcoming round of funding, inovait is looking to provide short-term pilot r&d projects in ai and igt with up to $125,000 in matching funds. the most promising projects will then be eligible for follow-on funding of equal or greater amounts for three subsequent years. this competition is open to canadian corporations, academic institutions, and not-for-profit organizations; however, each project requires two or more canadian partners and must actively involve at least one canadian small and medium enterprise (sme). applications must be submitted no later than april 15, 2021.

addf-harrington scholar program

how to apply: 

the alzheimer’s drug discovery foundation (addf) and harrington discovery institute have partnered to form the addf-harrington scholar program. the program recognizes physicians or scientists across the us, canada and the united kingdom, who are doing research to develop drugs to prevent, treat and cure alzheimer’s disease. the award provides funding and drug development support to help bridge the gap between basic discovery and the clinical realm.

program description

up to 3 addf-harrington scholars are chosen each year. the award includes:

  • funding up to $600,000 over two years
  • drug development expertise and project management support through the harrington discovery institute therapeutics development team
  • consulting services from highly experienced drug development personnel
  • business and commercialization advice
  • clinical development advice
  • regulatory assistance
  • intellectual property review and advice
  • assistance identifying and securing additional financial support based on project needs

the harrington discovery institute and its therapeutics development team will work closely with the awardee and their affiliated institution to maximize the clinical and commercial potential of the selected project.

what we fund

the addf-harrington scholar award selection committee seeks breakthrough discovery defined by innovation, creativity and potential clinical impact, including:

  • discoveries deemed to address unmet medical needs
  • modulators of novel targets
  • potential to be developed into a commercial program
  • possess strong intellectual property (ip) or protection strategy
  • may be either a small molecule, biologic, or other therapeutic modality

call for expressions of interest: managing organization (hub) for responsible artificial intelligence for climate action innovation research network in africa

eligibility

this call for expressions of interest is open to individual organizations or groups of organizations from low and lower-middle income countries in sub-saharan africa with a proven track record in the design, development, and scaling of climate change and artificial intelligence (ai) innovations. 

only organizations that meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the call document should submit an expression of interest to host the climate action innovation network.

scope

the goal of this call is to advance the responsible development and deployment of home-grown artificial intelligence (ai) innovations to tackle pressing challenges emerging from climate change in africa. the opportunity will provide funding to an organization or groups of organizations to design and implement an innovation research network of researchers and innovators applying responsible ai techniques to advance climate action in africa and contribute to a global ai for climate action initiative. 

the selected organization will

  • support the competitive selection of high-quality research projects from african innovators and researchers,
  • provide conceptual and technical support and guidance to the research network members,
  • collaborate with other ai4d and climate change networks and communities in africa.

in case of a consortium application, individual members can be based in different countries and the non-leading members may be based in countries other than the list of annex ii of the call document.
