the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

  • identify wise programs, policies or actions, and/or address critical knowledge gaps, including data, related to further understanding of the immediate impacts and/or future consequences of covid-19 among first nations, inuit, métis and/or urban indigenous populations, communities and/or individuals;
  • identify, implement and evaluate culturally safe, and community-led solutions to address the covid-19 pandemic and its immediate and/or future consequences among first nations, inuit, métis and/or urban indigenous communities;
  • accelerate first nations, inuit, métis and/or urban indigenous community-led knowledge translation and knowledge mobilization activities related to covid-19 within the context of indigenous health; and
  • inform and contribute to relevant research capacity and infrastructure, or adapt existing programs and infrastructure, in first nations, inuit, métis and/or urban indigenous communities to enable indigenous communities to design, lead, and meaningfully participate in culturally safe responses to the covid-19 pandemic.

community-based climate action projects

launched september 17, 2020, the request for proposals for community-based climate action projects will provide knowledge, tools and/or skills that lead to or engage communities in climate action. this request for proposals will provide from $100,000 to $6 million to eligible organizations, for a total of up to $50 million over five years.

eligible activities

2020 graduate fellowship program competition

eligibility: 

applicants must not hold another competitive stipend award at the same time as the canadian blood services graduate fellowship.

• applicants must be engaged in full-time training in research in a graduate program at a canadian university leading to a ph.d. or combined health professional ph.d. program. while priority will be given to applicants enrolled in a phd program, applications from applicants enrolled in an msc program will be considered, if, at the applicant’s institution, it is not possible to register directly in the phd stream. applicants registered solely for a master’s degree will not be considered.

• the program is open to both canadians and citizens of other countries.

• applicants must be enrolled in a training program that includes actual involvement in research and not only courses in research methods.

• applicants’ proposed research must be relevant to one or more of the research priorities described in section i of these guidelines.

• the proposed primary academic supervisor must be prepared to host the successful applicant in their laboratory for the duration of the training (2-4 years).
