how to apply: 

the hiv/aids community-based research is expected:

  • to promote the creation of new knowledge that is relevant to communities affected by hiv and other stbbi in canada;
  • to promote the dissemination of new knowledge and uptake of evidence into action to enhance the community response to the hiv epidemic and other stbbi;
  • to develop partnerships between researchers and affected communities;
  • to build capacity in the knowledge user community to engage in research and use evidence in their everyday business;
  • to build the next generation of hiv/aids and other stbbi cbr researchers through meaningful engagement of trainees in high-quality cbr projects; and
  • to reduce the incidence of new hiv and/or other stbbi infections in high-risk groups by focusing research on prevention efforts.

innovation to impact grants

how to apply: 

*note update to eligibility criteria regarding pursuit of ‘logical next steps’ from an innovation or cbcf grant.

 

these grants are intended to support the next phase following a productive ccs innovation grant or cbcf research grant, with the goal of working towards or achieving a significant impact on cancer.

 

applicants are required to articulate significant achievements from the original innovation/cbcf grant (i.e., significant new knowledge, publications, intellectual property, technology development, or relevant endpoints) and clearly describe and justify the progression to the new research proposed. in other words, the original grant and the i2i proposal must be linked by their overarching goal or objective. applicants must also describe the potential for impact of the proposed project on cancer.

 

budgets awarded may be up to $150,000 per year for up to 3 years, to a maximum of $450,000 per grant.

 

it is anticipated that approximately 15 grants will be awarded in this competition.

 

please note that only investigators with a funded innovation or cbcf research grant with a project end date between january 1, 2017 and april 30, 2020 are eligible for this program.

innovation grants

how to apply: 

innovation grants support the highest quality creative problem solving in cancer research. the goal of the innovation program is to support the development and testing of transformative, paradigm-shifting concepts and approaches to address problems in cancer research, enhance our understanding of cancer, and generate novel approaches to confront the challenges we face in defeating cancer.

 

budgets awarded may be up to $100,000 per year and a maximum of $200,000 per grant.

 

it is anticipated that approximately 30 grants will be awarded in this competition.

 

please note the following:

  • ·         innovation grants are offered once per year. the timeline below is anticipated to be consistent going forward.
  • ·         this competition consists of a full application only, abstract registration is not required
  • ·         there must be no (0%) overlap with any pending or held grant applications (i.e. 100% unique aims are required - conceptual overlap is acceptable but must be described by the applicant)

 

special funding calls within the innovation grant competition envelope:

  • applications relevant to breast cancer research are encouraged
  • applications relevant to skin cancer are encouraged
  • as a result of a generous donation, funding for one application with a focus on early detection, diagnosis, and/or treatment of malignant mixed müllerian tumours (mmmt) is available

2019 health research foundation research fellowship opportunities

how to apply: 

in 2019, the health research foundation (hrf) of innovative medicines canada will award two (2) research fellowships in the area of artificial intelligence (ai) health research in its impact on health care in canada. one of the fellowships will focus on ai’s impact on health system sustainability, while the second fellowship will focus on ai’s impact on patient outcomes.

the objectives of these hrf fellowships is to support outstanding md and/or phd researchers to become our future scientists and healthcare leaders with the tools to contribute to the innovative health care system of tomorrow, and to facilitate collaboration, teamwork, and trust between academic research centers and the pharmaceutical industry to find better ways to transfer knowledge from research to the health system.

each fellowship will have an award of $100,000 and is available to one person per fellowship. the fellowships are awarded with the expectation that the recipient will continue to demonstrate excellence in their field of work.

electric vehicle infrastructure demonstration (evid) program

how to apply: 

in 2017, canada’s transportation sector accounted for 24% of national ghg emissions.  the increased adoption of zero-emission vehicles (zevs) is key to decarbonizing our transportation sector and transitioning to a low-carbon future. the government of canada established the evid program as part of budget 2016’s investment in green infrastructure.  budget 2017 allocated up to $30m to the evid program from april 1, 2018 to march 31, 2022 to continue to support demonstrations of next-generation and innovative electric vehicle (ev) charging infrastructure that address technical and non-technical barriers to the installation, operation and management of ev charging technologies. 

this request for proposals (rfp) will allocate up to $15m towards non-repayable contributions for both ev charging and hydrogen (h2) refuelling infrastructure demonstration projects.

cancer pathology translational research grants

how to apply: 

projects must be likely to advance the field of cancer diagnostic, prognostic or predictive testing. collaborations between ontario institutions, including the trans-institutional use of core resources, are encouraged as is leveraging of existing collaborative clinical trials networks. it is expected that most proposals will make use of primary human cancer samples.

examples of the types of projects omprn seeks to fund include:

  • novel approaches to making definitive pathological cancer diagnoses under challenging circumstances such as small tissue samples or difficult-to-recognize cancer types;
  • incorporation of molecular data in the pathological classification of tumours;
  • identification or validation of prognostic or predictive cancer biomarkers, including in the context of drug discovery or clinical trials.

2020 kidney health research grant competition

how to apply: 

kidney health research grants provide financial support to medical researchers to assist in defraying the operating costs of research, which may include the purchase of materials, supplies and equipment and the payment of laboratory assistants.
