operating grant : terry fox new investigator award

how to apply:

cihr-icr is committed to supporting and promoting the success of early career researchers (ecrs). in response, this funding opportunity is part of a suite of activities icr is undertaking in support of ecrs and intends to contribute to the long-term success of ecrs by giving them leadership opportunities and contributing to their development as future leaders. this funding opportunity will also focus on the mentorship of ecrs and building capacity with a specific emphasis on cancer research across the cancer control continuum. recognizing ongoing efforts to harmonize across the tri-agencies, for the purpose of this funding opportunity, ecrs are referred to as new investigators and defined in line with the tfri definition, i.e., researchers who are within seven calendar years from the start of their first faculty-level appointment.

there has been a move towards more collaborative science with large teams. new investigators may be challenged with getting involved and having a meaningful role in team science. the tfri, a national funding agency, runs an annual competition to support new investigators to be mentored as part of their funded teams’ activities. the current competition will expand this program to teams funded by tfri and icr. the goal of the program is to support outstanding new investigators as they develop their careers as independent research scientists or clinician scientists, to undertake high-quality cancer research, while in close collaboration and mentorship with established tfri or cihr-icr-funded research teams. support will target high-quality research in all four funding pillars, providing information that may form the basis of innovative cancer prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment across the cancer control continuum.

operating grant : collaborative health research projects (nserc partnered)

how to apply:

the collaborative health research projects (chrp) initiative supports innovative, interdisciplinary, collaborative research projects, requiring participation from the natural sciences or engineering community together with the health sciences community. the initiative requires the translation of the research results to knowledge/technology users (ktus) and related stakeholders outside the academic or training environment. as such, the proposed research projects must have a strong focus on knowledge translation (kt) and lead to health and economic benefits for canadians through more effective health services and products and/or a strengthened health care system. ktu organizations should be meaningfully engaged throughout the research process, as appropriate, to inform research planning and design. for more information on kt at cihr, please see about kt. applicants are also encouraged to refer to cihr’s guide to knowledge translation planning at cihr: integrated and end-of-grant approaches. for additional guidance regarding knowledge/technology users, please consult chrp - frequently asked questions.

projects must include training opportunities for trainees in collaborative and interdisciplinary research of relevance to health, preparing them for employment opportunities in the private, public or not for profit sectors. given that interactions between personnel from academic institutions and other sectors contribute to knowledge sharing and the development of trainees, cihr and nserc encourage secondments, cross-appointments, co-supervision of 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , internships, reciprocal laboratory visits and joint workshops.

objective of this call

under this call, your proposed project must contribute to the achievement of the objectives of canada’s feminist international assistance policy, which seeks to reduce poverty and vulnerability and build a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous world. the policy recognizes that promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls is the most effective approach to achieving this goal.

proposed projects must align with at least one of the action areas outlined in canada’s feminist international assistance policy.

  • action area 1 (core action area): gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls
  • action area 2: human dignity (please note that concept notes for humanitarian assistance projects will not be considered under this call)
  • action area 3: growth that works for everyone
  • action area 4: environment and climate action
  • action area 5: inclusive governance
  • action area 6: peace and security

canada’s feminist international assistance policy states that “no less than 95 percent of canada’s bilateral international development assistance initiatives will target or integrate gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.” priority will be given to concept notes that show strong potential to meet the requirement of targeting or fully integrating gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment.
