the cmhc housing research awards program provides recognition to world-class housing research. the awards support research teams so that they can expand their work and share their knowledge.

the awards recognize activities that are impactful and innovative in canadian housing including:

  • housing research
  • research training
  • knowledge mobilization and outreach

 

they are designed to build on and sustain canada’s research-based knowledge culture across all fields related to housing. this includes social sciences and humanities, health and technology.

2019/20 species at risk stewardship program- call for proposals

how to apply: 

ontario is committed to protecting species at risk and their habitats. that’s why we are accepting applications for the 2019-2020 species at risk stewardship program which supports communities, organizations and other partners to implement on-the-ground activities that benefit species and their habitats.

 

applications must be received electronically by 3:00pm (est) on thursday, may 9, 2019.

 

the 2019/20 species at risk stewardship program guidelines and application form can be found by following the links on the ontario species at risk website: https://www.ontario.ca/environment-and-energy/species-risk-stewardship-fund. the guidelines and application form are also attached to this email. applicants are asked to carefully read the guidelines before completing and submitting an application. 

 

priorities have been identified for the 2019/20 funding year and are outlined within the guidelines. please review the priorities in detail. applications that do not address a 2019/20 priority will only be considered for funding after priority applications.

 

completed applications may be submitted via e-mail to sar.stewardship@ontario.ca. at this time, applications are being accepted for both the species at risk stewardship fund (sarsf) and the species at risk research fund for ontario (sarrfo) for the 2019-20 funding year only.

 

please note, if you are a current sarsf or sarrfo recipient and have a multi-year agreement with the province, funding has been confirmed for the 2019/2020 funding year meaning payments will be made subject to the terms and conditions of your agreement.

 

applicants are encouraged to contact species experts early in the planning process for advice on developing their project proposals. mecp staff can also assist applicants in determining whether an authorization under theendangered species act may be required via e-mail at sarontario@ontario.ca.

2019 postdoctoral fellowship program competition

how to apply: 

through its postdoctoral fellowship program, canadian blood services offers salary support for young investigators. postdoctoral fellows undertaking full-time research training in a canadian research laboratory affiliated with canadian blood services are invited to apply. the fellowship provides salary support plus benefits, and a one-time research allowance of $20,000. fellows may be supported for a maximum of three years.

blood efficiency accelerator award program competition

how to apply: 

canadian blood services is pleased to announce its 2019 blood efficiency accelerator award program competition. the objective of the program is to improve the efficient and appropriate utilization of blood products, while maintaining the safety of the blood system.

 

examples of projects funded through this program in previous competitions include:

  • a program to minimize preventable and inappropriate blood product transfusions in liver surgery
  • feasibility in canada for a non-invasive prenatal testing using single-exon fetal rhd determination
  • assessment of the quality of granulocyte concentrates to optimize their use in transfusion therapy
  • optimizing rejuvenation to improve the product quality of pathogen-inactivation and gamma-irradiated red cell concentrates.

genomic applications partnership program

how to apply: 

the genomic applications partnership program (gapp) funds downstream research and development (r&d) projects that address real world opportunities and challenges defined by “receptor” organizations such as industry, government, or not-for-profit entities. these organizations should be committed to commercializing or implementing the outcomes of the project.

projects are led by the receptor organization (canadian or international) but are active collaborations with a canadian academic researcher. these projects are co-funded by receptors and other stakeholders and must have the potential to generate significant social and/or economic benefits for canada.

the gapp aims to:

  • accelerate the application of canadian genomics-derived solutions from academia to real-world opportunities and challenges defined by industry, not-for-profit and public-sector receptors.

defense health program department of defense spinal cord injury research program funding opportunities for fiscal year 2019 (fy19)

how to apply: 

the fy19 defense appropriation provides $30 million (m) to the department of defense spinal cord injury research program (scirp) to support innovative, high-impact spinal cord injury research. as directed by the office of the assistant secretary of defense for health affairs, the defense health agency j9, research and development directorate, manages the defense health program (dhp) research, development, test, and evaluation (rdt&e) appropriation. the managing agent for the anticipated program announcements/funding opportunities is the congressionally directed medical research programs (cdmrp) at the u.s. army medical research and materiel command (usamrmc).

for fy19, scirp encourages applications that address the critical needs of sci research and patient care in one or more of the following fy19 focus areas:

  • fund studies that accelerate the movement of promising ideas in sci research into clinical applications.
  • applications must include at least one sci consumer advocate as a member of the research team.

  • the scirp tra may include a pilot clinical trial where limited clinical testing of a novel intervention or device is necessary to inform the next step in the continuum of translational research.
  • pre-application required; application submission by invitation only.
  • the maximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is $1,250,000 for direct costs.
  • indirect costs may be proposed in accordance with the institution’s negotiated rate agreement.
  • the maximum period of performance is 3 years

individual fellowships provide opportunities to experienced researchers of any nationality to acquire and transfer new knowledge and to work on research and innovation in europe (eu member states and horizon 2020 associated countries) and beyond. the goal of the msc-if program is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of experienced researchers, wishing to diversify their individual competence in terms of skill acquisition through advanced training, international and intersectoral mobility.

fellowships last from 1-2 years, and can include a secondment period of 3 – 6 months with another organisation in europe.

the grant provides an allowance to cover living, travel and family costs. in addition, the eu contributes to the training, networking and research costs of the fellow, as well as to the management and indirect costs of the project.

the grant is awarded to the host organisation, usually a university, research centre or a company in europe.

how to apply:
you submit a research proposal, including your cv. the proposal is written jointly with your chosen host organisation(s). the maximum length of a proposal is 10 pages, excluding the cv of the researcher and the annexes.

a career development plan should be established jointly by the host institution supervisor(s) and the researcher. in addition to research or innovation objectives, this plan comprises the researcher's training and career needs, including training on transferable skills, teaching, planning for publications and participation in conferences.
