the specific objective of this funding opportunity is to:

• provide funding to the host of the 2025 summer institute to develop and implement an intensive 5-day capacity-building program in sex and gender+ science in health research.

more specifically, the host of the 2025 summer institute in sex and gender+ science will:

• develop the training program and curriculum for trainees in the area of sex and gender+ science;
• recruit and lead a planning and coordination team for the 2025 summer institute;
• coordinate and manage the logistics required for successful design and delivery of the 2025 summer institute. this includes but is not limited to: recruiting planning and coordination staff; developing the summer institute theme and objectives; designing an interactive curriculum with speakers, reading materials, and other learning resources; organizing travel, accommodation, and meals for mentors and instructors attending the summer institute, as well as meals for trainees.

gender differences in health, access to and use of health care are long-standing concerns for health systems worldwide, and sex and gender inequities continue to persist in canada's health system, from research to care to outcomes. women are more likely to die of preventable illnesses and live with chronic illnesses. they are facing significant intersecting health inequities and barriers to accessing timely, quality, appropriate, and coordinated care based on socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, racism, culture, age, language, indigeneity, immigration status, location and/or disability. in addition, public health emergencies like the covid-19 pandemic amplify and exacerbate gender-based barriers and long-standing social disparities and inequities, putting women, girls, and gender-diverse people at a higher risk of poor health outcomes.

evidence-informed and culturally safe interventions (i.e., programs, services, policies, technologies, devices) that aim to improve access to health care for women, girls, and gender diverse people are critically needed to reduce persistent disparities in health outcomes across canada. we need to strengthen research and knowledge mobilization with a sex, gender, and intersectional lens to enhance health outcomes, eliminate gaps in access to care, and improve the quality of women's healthcare across canada.

as a result, the national women's health research initiative (nwhri), a joint initiative between cihr and women and gender equality canada (wage), was announced as part of the 2021 federal budget to advance a coordinated research program that addresses under-researched and high-priority areas of women's health and to ensure new evidence improves women's, girls’, and gender-diverse people's care and health outcomes. the initiative aims to ensure that all people in canada navigating the health system have access to gender-sensitive, culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, non-stigmatizing, evidence-based, high-quality healthcare across their life course.

the nwhri is composed of two funding streams: the pan-canadian women’s health coalition and the innovation fund. the coalition, comprised of hubs and an overarching coordinating centre, aims to maximize the visibility and impact of women's health research and practice in canada, committing to the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and indigenous rights.

the overall objective of the innovation fund is to support research in areas of women's health that have been chronically underfunded and under-researched. it includes two funding opportunities: 1) biomedical discovery grants, launched earlier in 2023; and 2) operating grants to support translational research and implementation science research in women's health. this funding opportunity focuses on the innovation fund - operating grants.

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

• to strengthen the integration, uptake, deployment and/or scale-up (spread) of evidence-based solutions (i.e., programs, services, policies, diagnostics, therapeutics, technologies, devices) that directly benefit women, girls, and gender diverse people’s health, and that improve their access to and experience within the health care system.
• to foster knowledge mobilization activities throughout the research process to expedite the transfer of knowledge, support improvements, and inform local adaptation, implementation, and adoption of evidence-based solutions for women, girls, and gender diverse people’s health at the community and/or population level.

the pediatric oncology group of ontario (pogo) partners to achieve an excellent childhood cancer care system for children, youth, their families, survivors and healthcare teams in ontario and beyond. pogo is offering a project funding grant intended to support research related to one of pogo’s priority research themes listed here. moreover, a goal of the funding is to conduct research that is relevant to patients, families, and survivors throughout ontario, and expands research capacity in the province.

the total amount available for this funding opportunity is $150,000. it is expected that two projects ($75,000) will be funded.

existing since march of 2001, brain star is a program of cihr’s institute of neurosciences mental health and addiction (cihr-inmha). brain star is administered under the institute community support grants and awards program and is designed to recognize the excellence of research done in canada by 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and trainees in all fields and disciplines covered by cihr-inmha.

the specific objectives of the brain star program are to:

• promote research careers in neuroscience, mental health and addiction in canada.
• stimulate the involvement of 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and trainees in the institute and increase awareness of inmha activities among 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and trainees.

• a maximum of fifteen awards of $1,500 each are available each calendar year.
• top-ranked winner of the brain star award will be named the marlene reimer brain star of the year.
• a profile of award recipient’s research on inmha’s and can’s websites.
• in the case of equal first co-authors, the prize will be divided equally.

global affairs leadership initiative funds: open call for projects

the global arctic leadership initiative (gali) fund is now open for applications! gali, funded by global affairs canada, allows researchers to fund projects that focus on enhancing canada's leadership in the arctic and fostering collaborations in the circumpolar north.

the two funding opportunities include the indigenous and northern collaborative research and education engagement fund and the indigenous and northern relationship development fund.

northern collaborative research and education engagement fund:

the purpose of this fund is to support researchers with established relationships and partnerships in the arctic who are interested in continuing their research and education programs in the region in keeping with the uarctic values, memorial university’s policy on research impacting indigenous groups, and supporting priorities within canada’s arctic and northern policy framework.

this fund is a maximum total of $40,000 over a 2-year duration.

northern relationship development fund:

the purpose of this fund is to help researchers at all uarctic member institutions, those in the north and those in the south, establish new relationships or strengthen the existing ones in order to develop collaborative, co-created research projects based on mutual respect and acknowledgment of the deep understanding and knowledge indigenous and northern people bring to such projects while ensuring that the academic research and engagement projects meet the needs of the people and the regions where such research takes place.

this fund is a maximum total of $15,000 over a 1-year duration.

the objective of the highway infrastructure innovation funding program (hiifp) is to encourage ontario’s academic community to research projects that contribute to generating solutions to current technical challenges encountered by mto in the construction and maintenance of the provincial highway infrastructure network. these research projects are funded through hiifp.

a diverse range of specific research topics have been developed by mto that outline: 1.) the background of the research requirement, 2.) the challenge or problem to be addressed, and 3.) the anticipated outcome and/or research deliverables.

an eligible institution may choose from one of the mto provided specific research topics or submit their own research topic (i.e., an open research topic).

research projects awarded the hiifp grant shall submit a written technical report to be published in the mto online library catalog. the research team will also present their findings to an mto technical committee interested in the specific subject area.
