global affairs canada and the chinese ministry of education are offering short-term scholarships to canadians wishing to pursue post-secondary academic study, research or chinese language training or a combination of these activities at participating chinese institutions . established in 1973, the canada-china scholars’ exchange program (ccsep) was the result of an undertaking by then chinese premier zhou enlai and canadian prime minister pierre elliott trudeau. over the past 49 years, more than 1,100 scholars have participated in the program. canadian scholars have brought new perspectives to their host country and returned to canada with enhanced knowledge and understanding of china.

scholarships are tenable at chinese institutions that admit scholarship recipients of the chinese government scholarship. these institutions are marked by an asterisk (*) in the list of participating chinese institutions.

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

• to support planning activities, partnership development and to increase understanding of the health research landscape that will contribute to the advancement of research consistent with the mandate of cihr; and
• to support dissemination events and activities that focus on the communication of health research evidence to the appropriate researcher or knowledge-user audiences, tailoring the message and medium as appropriate.

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

1. communicate and disseminate high-quality research evidence, including but not limited to cihr-funded research, on a health research topic of public interest in an easily-understood and interesting format;
2. promote the mobilization of knowledge between cihr’s health research community and members of the canadian public to increase the impact of health research;
3. foster engagement between health researchers and knowledge users to encourage participatory approaches to knowledge mobilization in health research; and
4. encourage canadians to contribute their views on future research directions

the critical minerals innovation fund (cmif) is an initiative to strengthen the critical minerals sector by supporting projects that will stimulate investments in ontario’s critical minerals supply chain and protect the province’s economic interests.

the cmif aims to support projects involving research, development and/or commercialization of innovative technologies, techniques, processes and solutions helping increase exploration, mining, development, production and processing of critical minerals within ontario. it will also enhance collaboration between industry, academia, start-ups, and research and development firms to encourage innovation in the critical minerals sector.

eligible recipients can receive up to $500,000 per project to cover 50% of eligible costs.

the pediatric oncology group of ontario (pogo) partners to achieve an excellent childhood cancer care system for children, youth, their families, survivors and healthcare teams in ontario and beyond. this year, pogo is offering a project funding grant intended to support research evaluating needs and/or developing scalable interventions to improve supportive care for children with cancer, survivors, and their families. research supported through this funding opportunity is expected to demonstrate how results can inform the development of interventions to improve supportive care.

the total amount available for this funding opportunity is $200,000. individual projects may receive up to $100,000.

the deadline for registration is january 30, 2023 by 5:00pm. interested applicants should fill out the registration form by the deadline expressing their interest to submit a full application. applicants must provide the following information in the registration form:

• project title
• name and institution of the primary investigator
• name of all co-investigators
• a 250 word lay summary of the proposed project

the objective of hiifp is to encourage ontario’s academic community to research projects that contribute to generating solutions to current technical challenges encountered by mto in the construction and maintenance of the provincial highway infrastructure network. these research projects are funded through hiifp.

a diverse range of specific research topics have been developed by mto that outline: 1.) the background of the research requirement, 2.) the challenge or problem to be addressed, and 3.) the anticipated outcome and/or research deliverables.

an eligible institution may choose from one of the mto provided specific research topics or submit their own research topic (i.e., an open research topic).

research projects awarded the hiifp grant shall submit a written technical report to be published in the mto online library catalog. the research team will also present their findings to an mto technical committee interested in the specific subject area.

as noted in the attached program guide, the deadline date for all applications is: wednesday, february 15, 2023 at 5:00pm.

the health system impact fellowship objectives are to:

• support impact-oriented career paths and elevate the career readiness of doctoral trainees and post-doctoral researchers studying health services and policy research (hspr) or related fields by supporting embedded research opportunities within health system organizations (e.g., public, private for-profit, not-for-profit, and indigenous health organizations) outside of the traditional university environment, enriched competency development (e.g., leadership, project management) and opportunities for mentorship and networking.
• expand and enrich the traditional doctoral and post-doctoral training environment by engaging health system organizations in preparing a cadre of promising doctoral trainees and post-doctoral researchers for impact-oriented careers in academic and health system organizations; and
• provide health system organizations with direct opportunities to realize and harness the benefits that research-trained individuals can bring to such organizations for rapid learning, improvement and evidence-informed decision-making that will advance the quadruple aim and health equity.
