a 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 music student will take a life-changing trip this summer when he travels to italy to study at the renowned cremona international music academy.
thanks to a $5,000 scholarship from 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s institute of italian studies, third-year music student amani sloley, who plays the viola, will spend 18 days studying with world-class musicians in the birthplace of the legendary violin maker, stradivarius.
this immersive program offers a wide range of string and wind instruments, piano, voice, composition, and conducting courses.
in addition to working with esteemed faculty members from around the world, sloley will participate in chamber music coaching and orchestral and ensemble training.
“i'm looking forward to meeting and performing with all the other musicians. i love to meet new musicians as each musician has a different perspective and experience within their music. i am also very excited to work with the fantastic viola and composition faculty at the cremona music academy. i cannot wait to meet them,” he said.
this experience will help him improve his performance, compositional skills and knowledge, and he will have the opportunity to perform in public at historic venues in and around cremona.
“i plan to walk away from this trip with a greater understanding of music and an appreciation of italian culture,” he said.
“after meeting many professional musicians, i know i have much to learn about music. cremona is one of the best places to learn from experienced musicians worldwide. visiting italy and seeing such a beautiful country and being immersed in its culture will be life changing,” he said.
while at cremona, sloley wants to improve and expand his skills in performance and composition. during the program, he will participate in many workshops, including sight-reading, technique and interpretation, and orchestra performance. workshops like these will help enhance his musical abilities.
sloley moved to thunder bay from brampton. he chose to study at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 because of the wonderful music facilities and the professors.

investments will support a new collaborative program increasing number of veterinarian graduates in ontario by 20 per cent per year and an incentive program to expand number of large animal veterinarians practicing in underserviced communities

this investment includes critical support for a new, collaborative veterinary medicine program – increasing the number of veterinary spaces for the first time since 1988 and adding incentives to address critical shortages in veterinary care.
the collaborative doctor of veterinary medicine program in rural and northern community practice will support the economic growth of ontario’s agri-food sector by expanding the number of veterinarians trained in ontario who are practicing within northern, rural and indigenous communities, ensuring livestock producers have the necessary veterinary services needed to expand operations.
the veterinary incentive program will provide loan assistance to recently graduated veterinarians to practice in underserviced areas and support large animal care.
dr. charlotte yates, president and vice-chancellor of the university of guelph expressed her sincere gratitude to the government for its support.

the host of a new podcast about medical assistance in dying is participating in a panel discussion with an author who experienced it first-hand, on wednesday, march 29 at 7 pm at goods and co.
dr. kathy kortes-miller will join loved into being author jill bodak and dr. kat ward, a local physician, to discuss jill’s book, which follows her and her father through his three years of living post-stroke and subsequent death using maid.
“join us to celebrate this incredible story and have a local discussion about a national issue – medical assistance in dying and its precursors, aging, illness, caregiving and grief,” said dr. kortes-miller, associate professor in the school of social work and director of the centre for education and research on aging and health at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 .
this story is a portrait of a person who is fighting to recover enough of himself to end his life on his own terms. on december 6, 2022, bill bodak exercised his right to access medical assistance in dying (maid), at home, surrounded by family.
the night before his death, hundreds of friends, former 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and family members gathered outside his home to light candles and wish him safe passage.
since his death, this story has reached hundreds of readers, been featured on cbc's superior morning show, and in a collection of podcasts, including thunder bay's disrupting death with dr. kortes-miller.
this evening dr. kortes-miller, jill, and dr. ward will gather to discuss this particular story, and the implications it has for the larger discussions happening across canada about caregiving, end-of-life choices, and how to embrace death as a triumph when we can, instead of a failure. cathy alex will be the mc for the evening.
“if you've read the book, come chat about it and why it spoke to you. if you haven't read the book, come get one and join in this heartfelt and deeply needed conversation,” dr. kortes-miller said.
the evening will include warm company, good conversation, a chance to ask questions, and also to buy the book. all proceeds from this project will be donated to dying with dignity canada in memory of bill bodak.
hosted by dr. kortes-miller and keri-lyn durant, a phd candidate at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , disrupting death first hit the airwaves on feb. 17 when they spoke with sandra martin, journalist and author of a good death: making the most of our final choices.
the second episode, with jill, aired earlier this month.
they started the podcast as part of the integrated knowledge translation for the five-year sshrc insight grant their research team is working on.
“our goal is to provide people with access to some of the conversations we as researchers and academics have access to – to learn more about medical assistance in dying,” dr. kortes-miller said.
“there's lots of misinformation about maid out there and people have lots of questions. we think a podcast is an accessible way for people to learn more about this important, new option for canadians.”
dr. kortes-miller said people are uncomfortable discussing death simply because they don’t do it very often.
“we don't have enough opportunity to access safe spaces where we can have these essential conversations. we are hopeful that our podcast, and the event at goods and co. will provide people with a platform to learn more about the importance of having these conversations with those who matter to them,” she said.

new article by lakehead researchers describes climate emotions and anxiety

a pair of 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 researchers recently published an article describing the emotions and anxiety experienced by young canadians due to climate change.
dr. lindsay galway, associate professor in the department of health sciences at lakehead thunder bay, and dr. ellen field, assistant professor in education at lakehead orillia, surveyed a thousand canadians in the 16 to 25 age group.
their sciencedirect article describes some interesting responses.
nearly half (48 per cent) think humanity is doomed. seventy-three per cent find the future frightening.
seventy-six per cent think people have failed to take care of the planet, while 39 per cent are hesitant to have children.
seventy-one per cent of respondents felt angry about the canadian government’s response to climate change – and 69 per cent felt abandoned.
six in 10 young people believe the formal education system should do more to teach them about climate change. seventy-eight per cent reported that climate change impacts their overall mental health.
four in 10 canadians said their feelings about climate change negatively affect their daily life.
despite all of those feelings, many respondents have hope that it’s not too late to slow down global warming. seventy-one per cent of respondents believe that together we can do something. half of these young canadians believe they can contribute.
“this research shows that inaction at the systemic and structural levels shapes the experiences of climate emotions and anxiety among young people across canada,” dr. galway said.
“while we consider difficult climate emotions and anxiety appropriate responses to the climate crisis, given its impacts, scale and urgency, we also recognize the mental and emotional burden that young people are bearing.
“to address difficult climate emotions, there needs to be strong leadership as well as supports and programs put in place to enable young people to cope with climate-related distress, foster emotional resiliency, and prevent harm. most importantly, to protect the mental and emotional health of young people, transformative climate action is needed,” dr. galway said.
for this study, the researchers wanted to replicate the hickman et al. 2021 study on youth climate anxiety to collect canadian data.
“we also wanted to expand the research and ask young people to identify coping supports that they think are needed,” dr. field said.
“responses resulted in a diversity of strategies, including the need for youth-focused support groups, more opportunities for young people to engage in climate action, and improving climate change education in schools. this really is an all-hands-on-deck moment for adults and a time for intergenerational work.”
the researchers thanked the social sciences and humanities research council and the canada research chair program for supporting this work.

lunsa is honoured to have hope lake as the host drum. 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and the thunder bay community will come together at the powwow in celebration of indigenous culture and dance.
warm-ups will be held on friday, march 10 from 6 pm to 8 pm. grand entry is scheduled for 12 pm and 6 pm on saturday, march 11 with a traditional feast being served at 4:00 pm and the powwow will wrap up for the day at 9:00 pm.
grand entry is set for 11 am on sunday, march 12 with the powwow ending at 4 pm.
lunsa is a volunteer 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 student union club. its goals are to promote the spirit of unity among indigenous 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 through social, cultural, and recreational events in addition to promoting cultural awareness between club members and the greater 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 student population.

for international women’s day, the united nations commission on the status of women (csw), brought the world together - from world leaders, ngos, academics and civil society.
the theme of this year's un csw67 was: innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age. the uncsw is the world’s main policy-making body dedicated to working towards gender equality and the advancement of women.
meagan malcolm, a masters of social justice studies student at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , was invited to speak on a panel and roundtable discussion at the uncsw in new york.
the panel ‘’young voices: technology,’’ hosted by national alliance of women’s organizations (nawo) a london-based umbrella organization dedicated to promoting women's human rights with a special focus on gender and europe.
panelists discussed the importance of imagining a feminist internet, which is critical to bringing about transformation in gendered structures of power that exist on and offline. disparities in access to technology, online violence, and surveillance disproportionately affect marginalized communities. meagan pointed out that internet access should be the number one priority, but rather the ongoing genocide against indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people, a lack of access to clean drinking water and housing are the central crises impacting indigenous communities.
meagan, who is anishinaabe from roseau river anishinaabe first nation, feels attending the csw67 has been invigorating.
it was an inspiring week at the un hearing from those who are advocating for the rights of women and girls globally. but she hopes more indigenous and racialized young women can attend these meetings in the future.
"our voices and representation on an international stage are crucial to having representation of racialized women. racialized women face additional barriers and discrimination due to their gender and race. this is known as intersectionality, which can lead to even greater disadvantages and inequalities.
"indigenous and racialized women voices must be centred when discussing gender issues, and the intersecting issues of gender. it is important for society to recognize and address these intersecting forms of discrimination and work towards creating a more equitable and just society for all women. this can be achieved through a variety of means, including education and policy changes," she said.
