in this presentation mkomose will focus on gkinoomaage biboon - winter teachings - related to the sustainable ways that pre-contact regional anishinaabe peoples thrived. winter is a time to look at the past, in the present, while using the aadizookanag ancient stories, to envision ways to approach a future of thriving for all relations minawaa zhiitaawsidoon minookimi (and preparing for spring) as the ancestors once did.
mkomose - andrew judge, phd - is an anishinaabe scholar, educator, and knowledge keeper who focuses on anishinaabe and indigenous knowledge systems, land-based education, and environmental stewardship. he is of anishinaabe and irish descent and has dedicated much of his nearly two decade long career to reviving traditional ecological knowledge and fostering deeper connections between people and the natural world.
