in 2021, kindred foundation established the kindred cares grant to help fund programs, projects and research in the area of hospice, palliative, and end-of-life care, for both adults and children with life-limiting conditions. the kindred cares grant was created to:
support community-based hospice/palliative care in ontario.
address important research questions relating to the clinical care and preferences of adults and children with palliative needs, and their families.
assist with projects and programs related to palliative care for children with life-limiting conditions.
the kindred cares grant is administered and managed by kindred foundation. the amount allocated each year will vary; however, the goal is to grow the kindred cares grant as an important funding initiative in kindred foundation.
purpose
to help fund programs, projects, and/or research in two areas, each of which have a separate stream of funding as detailed below:
funding stream one: pediatric palliative care
children with life-limiting conditions who currently receive or might benefit from palliative care in ontario.
funding stream two: hospice care
hospice care with both residential and support programs in ontario.
funding may be used for a stand-alone initiative or may be utilized as seed funding for a pilot project where the results could then be used to apply to a larger granting agency.

competitive peer-reviewed review process.
$30,000 in total funding is available; maximum $7,500 per grant.
approximately $15,000 is awarded for pediatric palliative care (in any setting).
approximately $15,000 is awarded to community hospice/palliative care (adults and/or pediatric).
funding is available for programs, projects or research.
budget must be adequately detailed, with preference given to impactful projects with an economical but feasible budget.
