since its inception in 1945, the medal of honour has been awarded to remarkable individuals whose research or contributions to public policies supportive of research and development in canada have achieved international recognition. all recipients have made pivotal contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the health sciences and/or the improvement of therapeutics healthcare.

the award recipient receives $20,000 to donate to the research-based, canadian academic institution of their choice, along with being presented with the prestigious medal of honour at the hrf’s annual awards event.

sshrc, cihr, ukri-ahrc and ukri-esrc have partnered on this funding opportunity to support research that will foster a deeper understanding of the state of knowledge about the global challenge of envisioning governance systems that work. this competition includes two streams:

• stream 1 will be reserved for applications submitted by an applicant affiliated with an eligible canadian institution. cihr may fund up to three projects in this stream and sshrc may fund up to 17.
• stream 2 will be reserved for applications jointly submitted by two applicants, one based in canada and the other in the united kingdom, who are affiliated with eligible institutions in their respective countries. sshrc, ukri-ahrc and ukri-esrc may jointly fund up to 27 projects.

the resulting knowledge syntheses will identify roles the academic, public, private and not-for-profit sectors could play in promoting more inclusive, equitable societies, and could inform development of effective tools and technologies, robust policies, and sustainable practices needed to support the path toward a diverse and inclusive future for all.

insight grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the insight research program.

insight grants support research excellence in the social sciences and humanities. funding is available to both emerging scholars and established scholars for research initiatives of two to five years.

stable support for long-term research initiatives is central to advancing knowledge. it enables scholars to address complex issues about individuals and societies, and to further our collective understanding.

insight grants support research proposed by scholars and judged worthy of funding by their peers and/or other experts. insight grant research initiatives can be undertaken by an individual researcher or a team of researchers working in collaboration.

applicants choose from one of two streams, depending on the amount of funding required. both streams will be adjudicated by the same committees, and will receive the same rigorous level of merit review. the deadlines and application process are identical for both; however, the targeted success rate for stream a is higher than for stream b.

sshrc welcomes applications involving indigenous research, as well as those involving research-creation.

thirty craig dobbin legacy scholarships are being awarded under this programme. fifteen of these scholarships will be awarded to canadian scholars seeking to conduct research in university college dublin (ucd), with another fifteen being awarded to ucd researchers seeking to conduct research in canada. applications with an interdisciplinary dimension are welcome, however all applications should align with one of the research themes prioritised by the ucd college of arts & humanities, which can be found here.

research scholarships ranging in value from cad 7,000 to cad 10,500 will support research visits ranging in duration from 2-4 weeks. the  application process has been designed to be very streamlined and efficient, to facilitate applicants.

a minimum of three scholarships will be made to scholars whose application proposes to conduct research which connects memorial university newfoundland with ucd.

ground-breaking research or pilot projects focused on long-term health effects for seriously disabled veterans living with amputation

the war amps canada cimvhr research grants partnership invites researchers from relevant fields to submit project proposals in competition for funding to accelerate research projects or pilot projects focused on greatly improving the care and/or quality of life for all people living with service-related amputations. specifically, this call focusses on the impact or interaction of non-pensioned conditions on the well-being and care needs of veterans with the pensioned condition of amputation, and their family members. non-pensioned health conditions often stem from service-related conditions (i.e. such as amputation) but are otherwise not recognized or compensated through their vac disability pension and benefits program. examples of non-pensioned conditions flowing from amputation include cardiac, cancer, diabetic and osteoarthritic conditions. this project can lead to better compensation and/or benefit for veterans with a pensioned condition of amputation. cimvhr and the war amps will work together to brief the successful applicant to understand the canadian veteran programs and pension legislation that form the context of this task.

brain canada and cqdm are joining forces once again to support interprovincial collaborative biopharmaceutical research and development (r&d) projects on the brain. this partnership creates a unique funding opportunity that brings together experts from academia and industry to support the development of platforms, tools and biopharmaceuticals that will pave the way for new advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders. 

this award is intended for research teams with a minimum of two independent researchers, a principal investigator from a research institution in quebec and an independent researcher from a research institution in another canadian province. they must work in close collaboration with at least one quebec small and medium-sized enterprise (sme).   

the project’s budget must be between $500,000 and $2 million.
