oicr cancer therapeutics innovation pipeline

how to apply: 

the cancer therapeutics innovation pipeline (ctip) program was established to capitalize on ontario’s expertise in cancer biology and drug discovery. its aim is to create a pipeline of validated cancer targets and first-in-class or best-in-class, novel, selective lead molecules (small molecules or biologics) to attract partnerships and/or investment for further preclinical and clinical development. to generate a sustainable pipeline, ctip will support projects that aim to provide increasing evidence of target validation and disease association using data from knowledge bases, functional assays, and drug screening in relevant in vitro and in vivo models of the cancer type of interest.

ctip funds projects in four stages of preclinical drug discovery and is currently inviting applications for the following two funding streams:

early validation projects: deliver robust translational evidence that a target-of-interest (toi) is associated with a specific cancer type(s) based on data from knowledge bases and from studies demonstrating that perturbation of the toi in relevant cell-based models produces anti-cancer effects sufficient to trigger a drug discovery campaign.

funding available: up to $150,000 per year for a maximum of two years.

early accelerator projects: deliver a validated primary assay to enable initial screening of molecules against a defined target. preliminary evidence of linearity of results between the primary assay and supporting secondary assays under development is also required. 

funding available: up to $150,000 for a maximum of one year.

call for nominations for the 2024 cihr-icrh/ccs distinguished lecturer award in cardiovascular sciences

how to apply: 

the cihr institute of circulatory and respiratory health (cihr-icrh) and the canadian cardiovascular society (ccs) have partnered on an annual distinguished lecturer award in cardiovascular sciences in recognition of an individual's outstanding contribution to the advancement of cardiovascular sciences both in canada and internationally. the award will be presented to the selected candidate at the canadian cardiovascular congress (ccc) october 24-27th in vancouver bc, where the recipient will be invited to participate in a session as a part of the scientific program. ccc is the largest gathering of cardiovascular and allied health professionals in canada.

the selected candidate will be an outstanding scientist who has conducted the majority of their research in canada and contributed significantly to the advancement of cardiovascular sciences. the individual may have conducted work in any one of a number of cardiovascular disciplines and within any of the four cihr research theme areas: biomedical; clinical; health systems and services; or, social, cultural, environmental and population health. the nominated candidate's research should also be in a field of interest to the cihr-icrh, ccs, and attendees of the ccc.

the cihr institute of circulatory and respiratory health (cihr-icrh) and the canadian cardiovascular society (ccs) have partnered on an annual mid-career lecturer award in cardiovascular sciences in recognition of an individual's outstanding contribution to the advancement of cardiovascular sciences in canada at the mid-point of their career. the award will be presented to the selected candidate at the canadian cardiovascular congress (ccc) – october 24-27, 2024 in vancouver, where the recipient will be invited to participate in a session as part of the scientific program. ccc is the largest gathering of cardiovascular and allied health professionals in canada.

the selected candidate will be an outstanding mid-career investigator (at the time of application, has assumed their independent research position 5-15 years ago) who has conducted the majority of their research in canada and contributed significantly to the advancement of cardiovascular sciences. for the 2024 competition only, the eligibility time frame is adjusted by 1 year to account for productivity losses as a result of the covid-19 pandemic. as such, the eligibility time frame is from 6-16 years ago. for all competitions, we will account for all disclosed leaves (i.e. parental, medical, and family responsibility leave) when calculating career stage.

energy innovation program – battery industry acceleration call

eligibility: 

eligible canadian applicants

this call is open to for-profit legal entities validly incorporated or registered in canada. canadian subsidiaries of internationally-based companies are eligible, provided that the organization is legally registered and has an established presence in canada.

an applicant can submit more than one application, provided that each application is for a distinct project.

academic institutions, community groups, not-for-profit entities, and governments (including provincial, territorial, regional, and municipal departments, and agencies) are not eligible to apply for this call.

project partners

applicants are permitted to work with partners on their project, including partners that do not qualify as eligible applicants. this could include academic institutions, government labs, other for-profit or non-profit organizations, indigenous communities, or other entities. foreign entities are eligible to act as partner organizations for the project.

project partners do not need to be confirmed in order for an expression of interest (eoi) to be submitted. details of each partner’s role and level of commitment will be required at each stage of the application process and will be taken into consideration when evaluating the application.

how to apply: 

the battery industry acceleration call, delivered under natural resources canada’s (nrcan) energy innovation program (eip), will support technologies that accelerate battery value chain decarbonization, security, and competitiveness for canada. the call will also contribute to federal efforts to strengthen the network of canadian battery innovators to help grow world-class canadian firms in the battery value chain.
