the pediatric oncology group of ontario (pogo) partners to achieve an excellent childhood cancer care system for children, youth, their families, survivors and healthcare teams in ontario and beyond. this year, pogo is offering a project funding grant intended to support research evaluating needs and/or developing scalable interventions to improve supportive care for children with cancer, survivors, and their families. research supported through this funding opportunity is expected to demonstrate how results can inform the development of interventions to improve supportive care.

the total amount available for this funding opportunity is $200,000. individual projects may receive up to $100,000.

the deadline for registration is january 30, 2023 by 5:00pm. interested applicants should fill out the registration form by the deadline expressing their interest to submit a full application. applicants must provide the following information in the registration form:

• project title
• name and institution of the primary investigator
• name of all co-investigators
• a 250 word lay summary of the proposed project

the objective of hiifp is to encourage ontario’s academic community to research projects that contribute to generating solutions to current technical challenges encountered by mto in the construction and maintenance of the provincial highway infrastructure network. these research projects are funded through hiifp.

a diverse range of specific research topics have been developed by mto that outline: 1.) the background of the research requirement, 2.) the challenge or problem to be addressed, and 3.) the anticipated outcome and/or research deliverables.

an eligible institution may choose from one of the mto provided specific research topics or submit their own research topic (i.e., an open research topic).

research projects awarded the hiifp grant shall submit a written technical report to be published in the mto online library catalog. the research team will also present their findings to an mto technical committee interested in the specific subject area.

as noted in the attached program guide, the deadline date for all applications is: wednesday, february 15, 2023 at 5:00pm.

the health system impact fellowship objectives are to:

• support impact-oriented career paths and elevate the career readiness of doctoral trainees and post-doctoral researchers studying health services and policy research (hspr) or related fields by supporting embedded research opportunities within health system organizations (e.g., public, private for-profit, not-for-profit, and indigenous health organizations) outside of the traditional university environment, enriched competency development (e.g., leadership, project management) and opportunities for mentorship and networking.
• expand and enrich the traditional doctoral and post-doctoral training environment by engaging health system organizations in preparing a cadre of promising doctoral trainees and post-doctoral researchers for impact-oriented careers in academic and health system organizations; and
• provide health system organizations with direct opportunities to realize and harness the benefits that research-trained individuals can bring to such organizations for rapid learning, improvement and evidence-informed decision-making that will advance the quadruple aim and health equity.

the cihr institute of circulatory and respiratory health (icrh) travel award competition is to support trainees registered in a master's or doctoral program, or at the post-doctoral or post-health professional degree stage to present their research (oral or poster), relevant to the institute's strategic priorities and mandate, at national or international meetings, conferences or symposia.

the icrh travel award competition does not support travel for the following purposes:

• research skill(s) development or update;
• exchange programs; or,
• lectureships.

the future is now! contributions program launches annual call for proposals for research  and awareness projects

the office of the privacy commissioner of canada (opc) has issued a call for proposals for its contributions program, which funds innovative research and public awareness initiatives that seek to better understand and address key and emerging issues related to privacy.

this year, the opc is calling for proposals answering to the theme “the future is now! assessing and managing the privacy impacts of immersive and embeddable technologies.” by "immersive" we mean technologies that merge the physical and virtual worlds, and by "embeddable" we refer to technologies that are capable of reaching deep inside an individual and deducing – or interpreting – their very essence.

to be eligible for funding, proposals must address issues that fall within the scope of the federal personal information protection and electronic documents act (pipeda), which sets the ground rules for how organizations may collect, use or disclose information about individuals in the course of commercial activities. applicants are encouraged to get a sense of previous or ongoing projects funded under the program when developing their proposals.

the opc contributions program is structured to fund projects that are initiated and completed within a single fiscal year (april 1, 2023, to march 31, 2024), although some exceptions may be made for multi-year projects where applicants can demonstrate that more time is required.

all proposals must be submitted by february 10, 2023. they will be evaluated on the basis of merit.

hfsp research grants support innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems with emphasis placed on novel and interdisciplinary approaches that involve scientific exchanges across national and disciplinary boundaries (see guidelines).

participation of scientists from disciplines outside the traditional life sciences such as biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, nanoscience or physics is recommended because such collaborations have opened up new approaches for understanding the complex structures and regulatory networks that characterize living organisms, their evolution and interactions.

research grants are provided for teams of scientists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories. preliminary results are not required and applicants are expected to develop new lines of research through the research collaboration.

it is understood that such research inherently contains risks and hfsp expects that teams of applicants address the risks and outline mitigation strategies for their research in case of failure and how they intend to achieve their goals.

applications for applied research, including medical research typically funded by national medical research bodies, will be deemed ineligible (see guidelines).
