the nurse practitioner specialization is delivered synchronously via a web-based videoconferencing and teleconferencing system and will require intermittent, scheduled on- campus lab attendance in thunder bay. 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will complete clinical practica (across 3 courses as listed above) requiring a triad relationship between the student, course leader and agency preceptor, in addition to seminar hours. practicum placements will occur based on student's areas of interest and geographical locations. 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 should not solicit their own placements.

世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 are expected to complete all requirements within six terms (2 years) of continuous full- time registration. as an exception, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 in the master of nursing programs can be admitted to the flexible (flex) option of six additional terms of continuous registration (total of 12 terms, or 4 years). as this option is intended for working professionals, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 admitted to the flex option will not be considered for financial support. note: 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will not be permitted to change from the standard option to the flex option, and vice versa.

how to apply

applications are due february 1st, 2025.

the first step in the application process is to complete the online graduate studies application form.

after you have submitted the online form along with the required $100 cad application fee, you will be provided with an online account where you can complete the remaining steps of the application process which include uploading the required supporting documents and monitoring the status of your application.

after you have submitted the online application form, you will be provided with instructions by email on how to log in to myinfo, where you will be able to review and upload the remaining and required supporting documents. official transcripts and proof of degree cannot be uploaded to the myinfo application site as they are not required, unless you receive an offer of admission. at that time, they can be forwarded to the faculty of graduate studies office or email which will be provided in your admission letter. please do not send these in prior to receiving an offer of admission.

program specific supporting documents

in addition to the general admission requirements for master programs, the following requirements also apply for the master of nursing program:

  • four-year bachelor of science in nursing degree or its equivalent from a university of recognized standing with a minimum 70% average
  • evidence of a commitment to nursing as contained in the student's curriculum vitae and personal essay
  • proof of current registration "without restrictions" with the college of nurses of ontario or another jurisdiction in canada
  • applicants to the nurse practitioner specialization must have the equivalent of 2 years full-time nursing practice (3640 hours) within the past 5 years. these hours must be fully complete by the time of application.
  • two references (one academic and one clinical) - the link will be automatically emailed to each of the referees you have identified in your application.

applicants to the master of nursing should indicate their interest in the nurse practitioner specialization at the time of application to the mn program. such applicants must submit:

  1. a complete application package to the mn program with nurse practitioner specialization as the program of study; unofficial academic transcripts; curriculum vitae; two references; proof of current registration "without restrictions" with the college of nurses ontario.
  2. a personal essay – this is a maximum 400 word response to a question.
  3. employer verification of employment

indigenous nursing entry program

the indigenous nursing entry program (inep) is an eight month program intended for 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 of first nations (status or non-status), métis, or inuit people who do not meet the regular or mature student entry requirements for the bachelor of science, nursing (bscn) program at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 . the inep is designed to provide the necessary skills and academic preparation for successful transition into nursing studies.  successful completion of  inep (with a minimum 70% average) will ensure your eligibility for admission to the bachelor of science nursing degree program at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 . inep 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 who attain an overall average of 80% or higher will be eligible for the 3 year compressed bscn program.

the indigenous nursing entry program (inep) is designed to provide first nations (status or non-status), métis, or inuit 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 with the necessary skills and academic preparation to transition into the bscn program. you must be fluent in english to participate in this program.

admission requirements

applicants to the inep must be first nations (status or non-status), métis, or inuit and be:
  1. recent high school graduates not meeting the school of nursing bscn required admission criteria (see admission requirements, requirements for admission to undergraduate degree programs)

the inep is a rigorous science-based program. senior chemistry and math courses are strongly recommended prior to attending this program.

graduate diploma in professional kinesiology

the graduate diploma in professional kinesiology provides professional training and clinical skill upgrading for current and future practitioners of kinesiology. individuals will gain advanced theoretical knowledge and practical experience to help prepare them to work within the scope of practice of a kinesiologist.

the diploma program is offered over a 12-month time-frame commencing in september. 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 enroll on a full-time basis and complete course work as required.  the program includes four online courses that run consecutively, and four 5-day on-site practical courses. this combination of online and on-site courses gives 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 the option to live in thunder bay or to live in an alternate location and attend the thunder bay campus to complete the practical courses. the format of course delivery may also allow 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 to maintain employment while completing their studies.

the program also includes a 200-hour practicum placement that may occur within the province, the country, or internationally provided a suitable setting is identified with an appropriate supervisor.

content in the program includes the following advanced level topics: assessment skills related to peripheral and spinal joints; exercise prescription for both healthy individuals and those with chronic disease; communication and leadership in the context of ergonomics and disability management; business, ethics, and risk management related to kinesiology.

our multidisciplinary approach to psychology provides you with the opportunity to explore these topics and the inner workings of the brain through either an arts or science stream, depending on your academic interests. whichever stream you choose, you will graduate with the objective tools to develop theories, test them through scientific experimentation, and develop new knowledge through comprehensive research methods.

  • psychology 1100 – introductory psychology

 this course touches on each core area of the discipline to familiarize you with psychology in general and hopefully introduce you to a topic you would like to explore further.

within the arts stream, the balance of your courses must be within the faculty of social sciences and humanities. if you are pursuing the science stream, the balance of your courses will fall under the faculty of science and environmental studies.

you may earn up to six bonus points to add to your final introductory psychology grade by participating in research, or by writing a one page, double-spaced, summary of a psychology article (1% per 1 hour of research participation or research summary) or a combination of the two. we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity as it will expand your understanding of the discipline while boosting your final grade. listings of psychology experiments available for credit are constantly updated throughout the year.

physics is the study of how matter and energy interact in our everyday lives. our experienced teachers and researchers will provide you with hands-on training that emphasizes problem solving, and the most advanced technology and mathematical methods.

as a first year physics student you will be required to take the following courses:

we provide a co-operative education option that will supplement your education with work experience in industries that specialize in physics-based technologies such as semiconductor and communications, medical physics, or meteorology. placements take place in the summer terms between third, fourth and fifth year, and the fall term of fifth year. for more information, visit our co-operative option program page.

as a student in our school of kinesiology you will study the science of human movement, physical activity, and their relationship to health, well-being and performance. our multidisciplinary kinesiology programs explore how the body moves by studying:

  • anatomy
  • physiology 
  • biomechanics

  • musculo-skeletal injuries
  • motor development and control
  • nutrition 
  • adaptive physical activity

additionally, you will learn about the psychological, sociological and cultural factors that influence physical activity in all populations. this breadth of study will teach you to work collaboratively as part of an interprofessional team to deliver the best quality of care in diverse healthcare settings.

if you are interested in becoming a registered kinesiologist, our broad-based learning curriculum successfully prepares you to challenge the registration exam for the regulatory college license requirements to practice in ontario.

in first year you will be required to take the following courses:

  • kinesiology 1010 – introduction to kinesiology
  • kinesiology 1035 – physical growth and motor development
  • kinesiology 1113 – principles of health: a personal wellness perspective 
  • kinesiology 1710 – general principles of fitness and wellness 
  • kinesiology 1711 – movement observation and assessment

you will also be required to complete:

  • chemistry 1210 – organic and biochemistry for health sciences
  • english 1116 – native and newcomer literatures in canada: contact zones

the remaining balance of your courses will be electives. 

first year kinesiology studies set the stage for higher level courses such as:

  • psychology of physical activity
  • sociology of physical activity and sport
  • musculoskeletal injuries
  • exercise prescription
  • exercise physiology
  • human anatomy

electives are available each year to explore other topics outside of kinesiology.

fourth year kinesiology 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , under the guidance of a faculty member, complete a compulsory research project applying both theory and practice-based knowledge.

this project is an exceptional exercise in team building and leadership development and serves as a great foundation for those interested in pursuing graduate studies, research opportunities, or entering practice.  

our hands-on labs are specially designed to teach you how to interact with patients/clients, assess their physical movement and make recommendations for improving function. cardio-pulmonary, movement analysis and materials testing technology provides enhanced experiential learning opportunities.

labs are intentionally small in size, approximately 20 to 25 people, to facilitate hands-on participation and mentorship opportunities.

the only required social work course in first year is:

  • social work 1100 – introduction to social welfare

 the remaining courses will be electives of your choice, with a wide array of options to choose from.

if you decide to combine your social work degree with a degree in another discipline, such as gerontology, indigenous studies, or women's studies, your additional courses must reflect the requirements of your chosen second degree.

once you have completed the necessary social work prerequisites in first and second year, you must apply for admission into the professional years in year three. the professional years provide specialized courses in the social work profession, including field placements in year 3 and 4.

field placements

put your newly developed skills and knowledge to practical application in supervised learning environments. our field education coordinators will work with you to facilitate meaningful field placement experiences that will prepare you for employment.

you will participate in two field placements, under the direction of a qualified social work supervisor, completing 110 days of on-the-job training in a social service agency or community organization.

concentrations

as a social work student at the thunder bay, you have the ability to combine your hbsw with studies in gerontology, indigenous studies, and women's studies. this double degree option provides you with the unique opportunity to focus your social work knowledge on a particular topic and/or population beginning in your first year.

public health: nursing specialization

please note: the master of public health with specialization in nursing and nurse practitioner electives program has been temporarily suspended.

in the master of public health with specialization in nursing program, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will focus on current issues in the science and/or service of public health, so that they may gain experience through opportunities in any of the fundamental disciplines that underlie public health. the program is primarily intended to prepare graduates for a career in public health practice. the program's objectives are to prepare a graduate who:

  • possesses advanced health-related education
  • is capable of critical analysis
  • understands health-related decision-making at the level of the individual, population, and government
  • understands research
  • possesses knowledge exchange and dissemination strategies for individuals, populations, and government

the degree is designed to take into consideration the learner's needs including the unique opportunity to individualize his/her clinical courses to a variety of foci: clinical practice, administration, education, and community health.

the master of public health with specialization in nursing program may be completed through distance education on a flexible full-time or full-time basis. those wishing to complete the master of public health program on-campus may apply to the full-time on-campus program. note that, once admitted to the master of public health program, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 are not permitted to change from the standard full-time option to the flexible full-time option, and vice versa.

  • full-time 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 completing at a distance must attend the daytime classes
  • for those studying at a distance, the master of public health courses are offered using a combination of zoom videoconferencing technology for real-time scheduled classes, and of desire2learn (d2l), a secure password-protected learning environment (e.g., for course resources, e-mail, and online discussions). the connectivity using zoom allows 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 to have direct audio and visual contact with the course instructor and with other graduate 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 during class time and while working together on shared course assignments. in some classes, break-out sessions are structured into the course so that 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 have both large-and small-group learning experiences.

世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 completing the program as a full-time student must complete all requirements within six terms (2 years) of continuous registration. 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 completing the program as a flex-time student must complete all requirements within twelve terms (4 years) of continuous registration as follows: six terms (2 years) of continuous full-time registration followed by up to six additional terms (2 years) of continuous registration, during which no fees are required.

applicants for admission must be graduates of an accredited university, college, or institute as well as show evidence of scholarly achievement. except where otherwise stated in the admission requirements of a particular program, domestic degree 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 must have a four year bachelor's degree or its equivalent with at least (b) based on their last 20 half courses or equivalent. we recommend that international applicants have an overall standing of second class - upper division or higher.
