and the thunder bay regional health sciences centre. tbbri has three key research themes -- advanced detection devices, imaging guided interventions, and probe development and biomarker exploration. this laboratory is guided under the advanced detection devices scope and focuses on using hyperpolarized (hp) noble gas magnetic resonance imaging (mri), an innovative technology that provides spectacularly detailed images of structures and processes within the body. hp gas mri has the potential to allow medical researchers and health care providers to significantly improve diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases, including lung diseases, stroke, and cancer. this job will include involvement in all phases of design, construction, and optimization hp gas mri technologies for pulmonary functional imaging, brain imaging and other techniques using hp gas mri.
specific duties will include mri experiments with hyperpolarized (hp) noble gas, assistance with experiment scheduling, data archiving, and post-processing and analysis of images from the mr experiments. the intern will also prepare and work on health canada and research ethic board requirements, clinical protocol development, as well as in organizing studies with animals or patients and verifying any experiment or trial is scientifically sound and clearly described.

we are seeking a research manager to coordinate activities within a fast-paced multidisciplinary team investigating the development of a community-based emergency care (cbec) system for remote northern communities throughout northern ontario with a particular focus on windigo first nations council (wfnc) communities. the main focus of the position is to manage the activities related to the four key phases of the project:
(1) epidemiological study of medical emergencies in remote aboriginal communities in northern ontario with a subgroup analysis of wfnc communities;
(2) a systematic review which focuses on the question "what are the health effects of training laypeople to deliver emergency care in under-serviced populations worldwide?";
(3) collaboratively develop a detailed five year strategic plan to implement cbec in wfnc communities,that addresses local needs; and
(4) manage and advance collaborative relationships with the program's strategic partners.

responsibilities:
- coordinate research activities related to the cbec project;
- develop strong working relationship with wfnc health leaders, and liaise with community leaders, and other stakeholders as needed;
- assist with documentation, research design and methods, and compiling research reports;
- investigate feasibility of various data access options for the epidemiological study;
- coordinate data collection and analysis for epidemiological study;
- assist with reviewer and data management related to the systematic review;
- assist with other research and related administrative tasks as directed/required/assigned;
- assist with reb application and maintaining reb approvals;
- support research team activities including meeting scheduling, note-taking, photocopying, etc. as required;
- compile relevant documents and information from various sources and departments that are involved in or have a stake in emergency response training in northern communities;
- assist with knowledge exchange, including poster presentation and manuscript development as requested;
- may require some travel and flexible hours that extend later in the day during certain times when workload demands are high;
- initiate or participate in other special projects and perform other duties as assigned;
- interpret and apply organizational policies and workplace rules as appropriate;
- act as a role-model of the organization's values in daily work activities.
qualifications:
education:
- completion of a masters degree (ma/msc) in a health-related field preferred, or enrolled in a health-related graduate program required;
- research training in epidemiology preferred and completion of a research methods course is required.
experience:
- management of complex projects or strategic initiatives with multiple components and intersection timelines is required;
- collaborative research with aboriginal communities is an asset;
- qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis is an asset.
