elder gene nowegejick, will be conducting a sweat lodge ceremony on thursday, october 24th, 2024 starting at 3 pm at the 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 sweat lodge site. wear loose clothing, such as t-shirts, shorts and long skirts. be sure to bring a towel. participants are encouraged to bring the elder a tobacco offering which is available at issc (uc1007). if you are on your moon time you must not participate in the sweat lodge ceremony or handle ceremonial items.

community-based art project with tashie broadbent

my name is natasha and i’m an anishinaabekwe artist from manitou rapids. i'm currently studying visual arts at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , however my artistic journey started when i was much younger. creating art was one of my earliest interactions with my culture and serves as an act of resurgence. i began painting and practicing traditional crafts when i was 12. i was heavily inspired by the artists that surrounded the powwow circles my family went to and i soon found myself among them. in recent years, i have been focusing on reconnecting with my culture and developing my art in both a technical and personal way.

session 1: september 9, 2024 12:30 - 2pm (agora circle by the tipi - rain location agora)

join us with indigenous artist tashie broadbent for a conversation to share what reconciliation means to you? from this session tashie will create a piece that we will paint as a community. 

session 2: sept 16, 2024 - 12:30 - 2pm (agora)

join us and participate in painting a permanent piece to be exhibited on campus

about the speaker

miranda jimmy is a passionate edmontonian and member of thunderchild first nation. she is a community connector, a fierce defender of truth, and is committed to the spirt and intent of the treaty relationship. she has training in arts and cultural management, conflict resolution and negotiation, and communications. she has made a career in the arts and heritage sector, working with many different non-profit organizations, nations, governments, and private businesses. for more than 10 years, miranda has been elevating the voice of indigenous peoples impacted by colonial institutions, like indian hospitals, and supporting them in accessing their own archival records.

about the speaker

dr. cynthia wesley-esquimaux served as vice provost for indigenous initiatives at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 for three years. effective september 2016 she was appointed as the 1st indigenous chair for truth and reconciliation in canada for 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 and continues to develop pathways forward to reconciliation across canada.
