the specific objective of this funding opportunity is:

• to catalyze and support research efforts of canadian researchers to use the available clsa data in order to better understand how biological, medical, psychological, social, lifestyle and/or economic aspects of people's lives have an impact on both maintaining health and the development of disease and disability as people age.

the brockhouse canada prize for interdisciplinary research in science and engineering recognizes highly collaborative canadian teams of researchers from different disciplines who have combined their expertise to produce achievements of outstanding significance in the natural sciences and engineering.

the brockhouse canada prize competition is held annually. the prize is accompanied by a team research grant of up to $250,000, which may be used to support the direct costs of university-based research and/or the enhancement of research facilities. the grant will be paid in three annual instalments. research grant funds associated with this prize are subject to the tri-agency guide on financial administration.

the goal of the exploration stream is to inspire high-risk, high-reward and interdisciplinary research.

exploration grants support research that pushes boundaries into exciting new areas. researchers are encouraged to think “outside of the box” and undertake research that would defy current paradigms; brings disciplines together in unexpected ways and from bold, innovative perspectives; and has the potential to be disruptive or deliver game-changing impacts.

exploration stream grants support projects that:

• bring disciplines together beyond traditional disciplinary or common interdisciplinary approaches;
• propose to explore something new, which might fail; and
• have the potential for significant impact.

exploration grants support research with a range of impacts—economic, scientific, artistic, cultural, social, technological, environmental or health-related. this list is not exhaustive; other types of impacts are also recognized. diversity of perspectives is important, and the fund encourages research proposals led from any discipline, from those in the social sciences and humanities, to health, the natural sciences and engineering.

brain canada is pleased to be partnering with alzheimer’s association (alz) to launch the advancing research on care & outcome measurement 3.0 (arcom-3) funding program, an international and collaborative competition aimed at addressing significant gaps in care and outcome measurement, and providing an opportunity to advance research so that care providers can ensure that they are implementing evidence-based practices and achieving desired outcomes. 

areas of interest for this program include, but are not limited to, quality metrics, systems of care, translation of interventions, increasing diversity within research and clinical trials, risk reduction, development of novel methods of data collection or analysis, and novel measures to validate previously developed measures or evaluation of measures in diverse and underrepresented populations.  

through this partnership, brain canada will co-fund up to four canadian-led teams. each award is limited to usd $250,000 over a period of up to two years.

the cssic research fellowship will provide funding to emerging and established external scholars at canadian postsecondary institutions whose research is positioned to promote college student success.  

• value: $25,000 to $100,000 per project (maximum funding envelope: $100,000)  
• duration: 1 to 3 years  
• application deadline: october 20, 2023  
• anticipated start date: may 2024 

the purpose is to fund projects that will:

• increase access to american sign language (asl) interpretation, and
• increase access to langue des signes québécoise (lsq) interpretation

this will be through skill development for existing interpreters and training of more interpreters.
concept application forms will need to meet at least 1 of the following 3 objectives of this call for concepts (cfc):

• raising awareness about recognized sign language interpretation accreditation/training programs (bringing people into the interpretation field)
• increasing the number of trained sign language interpreters that can provide services (increasing the number of graduates)
• improving the overall competencies of sign language interpreters through the acquisition of additional skills (improving skills of interpreters)
