(thunder bay - may 19, 2005) a 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 geology professor is taking an active part in the promotion of the understanding of the geology of the lake superior region. dr. pete hollings will be co-chairing the 51st annual institute on lake superior geology (ilsg) in nipigon from may 24 to 28.

ilsg is a non-profit professional society which provides a forum for the exchange of geological ideas and scientific data to promote a better understanding of the geology of the region. the major activity of the institute is its annual meeting with geological field trips and technical presentations.

"this is the first time the annual meeting has taken place in nipigon, and it's a fantastic chance for us to communicate with other geologists about the area," says dr. hollings. "this meeting will bring together over 120 geologists from across north america, and allows both academics and exploration geologists to share ideas. it truly is a learning and sharing opportunity."

the conference is a combination of field trips, technical sessions, award presentations, and poster presentations. dr. hollings, who is co-chairing the event with local geologist mark smyk of the ministry of northern development and mines, will also be hosting one of the field trip, leading some technical sessions, and making a poster presentation.

the meeting will highlight the results of the lake nipigon regional geoscience initiative, a research collaboration between lakehead u, the ontario geological survey, and the ontario prospector's association, the results of which have led to increased exploration in the region.

(thunder bay - may 17, 2005) 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 is planning to recognize "40 northern lights" - forty men and women who have contributed to the growth and development of 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 over its forty-year history. their names will be published in the 2004-2005 annual report.

"we are looking for members of both the campus community and the thunder bay community to nominate individuals who should be recognized as lakehead u's "40 northern lights," says frances harding, coordinator of publications at lakehead u and editor of the annual report. "there have been so many who have contributed to the university becoming what it is today, and we would like to hear about these people."

(thunder bay - may 13, 2005) the third annual td canada trust thunder bay high school math contest was written by 135 city 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 on may 11. this number is up from 67 in 2003 and 96 in 2004.

contest problems, marking, and administration are provided by the members of the department of mathematical sciences of 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , with the very able assistance of ryan holm, a 2002 graduate of st. ignatius high school who is now a mathematics major at waterloo university, and who is a holder of a prestigious nserc summer student research grant, working under the direction of the mathematical sciences department at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 .

sixteen winners will be honoured at an awards ceremony on may 18 in room c-242 at confederation college at 7 p.m. members of the media are invited to attend the ceremony, or for interviews prior to the event, please contact dr. clement kent at 344-4785.

the contest had two sections, junior for grades 9 and 10, and senior for grades 11 and 12. the competition, which lasts a full day, has two parts, an individual contest in the morning, and a team event where 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 work in teams of 3, in the afternoon. top 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 in the individual event were jenny liu, of sir winston churchill high school with a score of 92 out of 120 in the junior division and yuhan chen of port arthur collegiate institute with 75 out of 120 in the senior division.

top team honours in the junior division go to sir winston churchill high school, to team members jenny liu, gillian gillies and morgan lockhart. the top team in the senior division comes from st. ignatius high school, team members andrew holm, sara legros and riley hall-onabigon.

the contest is entirely a thunder bay production with the generous main support of td canada trust and additional support from other organizations in the city--bmo- nesbitt burns, thunder bay ventures and thunder bay hydro. sponsor representatives will present the awards at the may 18 ceremony.

the group, supervised by dr. abdelhamid tayebi, a professor with the faculty of engineering at lakehead, won for their paper entitled "computer based state feedback control of a double inverted pendulum."

for an unparalleled career in bringing big ideas to the biggest screens in the world, this year's recipient of the 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 alumni honour award is pioneering imax film director stephen low. an award-winning large-format filmmaker, low has produced a sequence of documentary film projects--all in the imax format--featuring a wide range of subject material such as the titanic, mark twain, f1 racing, deep sea volcanoes, and even that most prominent of canadian symbols: the beaver. low's most recent project is the 2004 release "fighter pilot: the battle of red flag" -- an in-depth look at united states' air force jet pilot training, featuring spectacular air-to-air photography of the most advanced flying machines the world has ever known. he looks back fondly on his time at lakehead, saying "the day i arrived in thunder bay, it really did huge things for my sense of well-being and confidence. it changed my life."

(thunder bay, may 6, 2005) 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 is pleased to announce the results of the annual competition of science and engineering research canada (nserc). in the 2005 competition, in terms of the first year of the grant, 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 has received almost triple the amount of new nserc grant money compared with last year's grants. 22 researchers will be benefiting from these grants. these researchers join lakehead's roster of 46 other nserc-funded researchers.

nserc is the national instrument for making strategic investments in canada's capability in science and technology. nserc supports both basic university research through research grants and project research through partnerships of universities with industry, as well as the advanced training of highly qualified people in both areas. nserc reports to parliament through the minister of industry. it is governed by a council selected from the private and public sectors, and the universities.

"the researchers who have received new nserc grants join a roster of successful professors who, through their academic pursuits, show a commitment to building a better future," says dr. rui wang, vice president (research) at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 .
