aid to scholarly journals grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the insight program. they support canadian scholarly dissemination by offering a contribution to enable journals to explore innovative activities as well as to help them to defray the costs associated with publishing scholarly articles, digital publishing and journal distribution on canadian not-for-profit platforms.

aid to scholarly journals grants are meant to:

• increase dissemination, discoverability and readership of original research results in the social sciences and humanities through canadian scholarly journals;
• leverage significant federal investments in digital scholarly publishing infrastructure;
• assist journals as they seek to take advantage of developments in digital technologies and innovative practices; and
• encourage the transition to open access models of publishing.

cifar invites the global research community to submit proposals for new programs that address complex, fundamental questions of importance to the world. ideas must be novel, bold, and potentially transformative to warrant the creation of a sustained, interdisciplinary, and collaborative research program.

for cifar’s third global call for ideas, we invite proposals related to the future of being human, exploring the intersection of humans, science and technology, social and cultural systems, and our environment. our understanding of the world around us, and new insights into individual and societal behaviour, have the potential to provide enormous benefits to humanity and the planet. we invite bold proposals that address over the long term novel questions about our complex emerging world, where the issues under study are entangled and dynamic.

the fy21 defense appropriations act provides funding to the department of defense chronic pain management research program (cpmrp) to support research of exceptional scientific merit with the potential to make a significant impact on improving the health and quality of life of service members, veterans, and all americans living with chronic pain.  per the fy19 cpmrp congressional appropriation, chronic pain is defined as a pain that occurs on at least half the days for six months or more, and which can be caused by issues including, but not limited to:  combat- and training-related physical or mental stress and trauma, migraines and chronic headaches, traumatic brain injury, arthritis, muscular-skeletal conditions, neurological disease, tick and vector-borne disease, other insect-transmitted or tropical disease, and cancer.  the cpmrp seeks to support and promote innovative, high-impact research to prevent the development and improve the management of chronic pain, with specific emphasis on the utilization and implementation of non-opioid therapies or non-addictive complementary methods.  the managing agent for the anticipated program announcements/funding opportunities is the congressionally directed medical research programs (cdmrp) at the u.s. army medical research and development command (usamrdc).

supports innovative research that will make an original and important contribution to the field of research, patient care, and/or quality of life.

• research must address one or more of the fy21 cpmrp iira focus areas of chronification of pain, development of non-opioid therapies and methods for the treatment of chronic pain, and effectiveness or observational studies of novel or untested techniques/approaches/pathways to chronic pain management.

• partnering pi option is available.

• multidisciplinary collaborations and innovative approaches are encouraged.

• clinical trials will not be funded.

• pre-application submission is required; application submission is by invitation only.

• the maximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is $900,000 for direct costs.

• indirect costs may be proposed in accordance with the institution’s negotiated rate agreement.

• the maximum period of performance is 4 years.

translational research award – preproposal due july 30, 2021

investigators at or above the level of assistant professor (or equivalent)

supports translational research that will accelerate the movement of efficacious, evidence-based ideas into clinical applications.

• research must address one or more of the fy21 cpmrp tra focus areas of implementation science, comparative effectiveness, and observational studies related to chronic pain.

• partnering pi option is available.

• incorporation of biopsychosocial models of assessment and stakeholder engagement are encouraged.

• studies seeking to evaluate new therapies or approaches, either pharmacological or non-pharmacological, that have not been previously evaluated in a clinical setting will not be funded.

• pre-application submission is required; application submission is by invitation only

the maximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is $1,400,000 for direct costs.

• indirect costs may be proposed in accordance with the institution’s negotiated rate agreement.

• the maximum period of performance is 4 years.

the national housing strategy demonstrations initiative funds the demonstration, in a real environment, of solutions supporting housing affordability, the national housing strategy priority areas, population groups and outcomes.

demonstrations can include:

these grants support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. these events and activities represent opportunities to exchange knowledge and to engage with participants on research issues of value to them. events and outreach activities funded by a connection grant can often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects.

connection grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes, or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:

• disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchanges in the social sciences and humanities;
• scholarly exchanges between those working in the social sciences and humanities and those working in other research fields;
• intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers in the social sciences and humanities and researchers and practitioners from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or
