objectives

research tools and instruments (rti) grants foster and enhance the discovery, innovation and training capability of university researchers in the natural sciences and engineering by supporting the purchase of research equipment.

description

the rti grants program provides the primary avenue for university researchers in the natural sciences and engineering to obtain up to $150,000 in support for research tools and instruments with a net cost between $7,001 and $250,000. net cost is defined as the purchase cost of the equipment after any discount from the vendor and before taxes, customs and importation fees, transportation and shipping charges, and assembly and installation costs. the vendor discount  cannot be offered in exchange for services from users benefiting the vendor company. the research community is also encouraged to explore other avenues for funding research tools and instruments, including nserc’s other programs that allow the purchase of equipment as eligible expenses.

the purpose of this call for letters of intent (loi) is to fund canadian research that investigates the transmission dynamics of respiratory infectious diseases, such as covid-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (rsv). this opportunity is a two-stage process that involves assessing submitted lois and inviting research teams of approved projects to submit a full funding request. multiple research projects will be funded, subject to budgetary and project considerations.

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• address the biological, social, environmental and/or behavioural effects on lung health through rigorous research approaches informed by intersectional analyses;
• coordinate the collection and sharing of data to understand, prevent, detect and manage lung health to improve reproducibility and rigour of research results;
• disseminate, inform and implement high-quality evidence into practice and policy for improved and more equitable health outcomes;
• strengthen and promote lung health research capacity through interdisciplinary and experiential-based approaches to foster the next generation of lung health researchers;
• meaningfully integrate equity, diversity and inclusion analyses and considerations within research studies and teams;
• broadly strengthen the respiratory health and wellness of people living in canada with meaningful consideration of historically excluded groups and indigenous peoples (first nations, inuit, and métis).

this funding opportunity will support projects relevant to at least one of the following research areas:

• clinical trials for new or repurposed drugs (including vaccines and biologic drugs) and medical devices (such as diagnostic tests) to prevent or respond to health emergencies.
• early phase (pilot, phase 1 and phase 2) clinical trials of safety and efficacy to support the development and commercialization of new health products with high potential to solve current and future health challenges (such as pandemics, antimicrobial resistance, and other health emergencies)
  • new health products of particular interest for this opportunity include those in emerging technology areas (e.g., precision medicines, including cell and gene therapies, rna, and viral vectors, and monoclonal antibodies).

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• support the growth of emerging research foci and priorities that have the potential to advance the health and well-being of youth in canada;
• support the development of collaboration, both within the research community, as well as with knowledge users, policy makers and other key partners, including youth, that will enhance interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral approaches to research and knowledge mobilization; and
• build capacity, both in terms of the researcher career pathway, and the engagement of youth throughout the research process to enhance youth health research.

partnership development grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the research partnerships program.

these grants provide support over one to three years to teams/partnerships, led by a project director, to:

• develop research and/or related activities in the social sciences and humanities—these can include knowledge mobilization and the meaningful involvement of 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and emerging scholars—by fostering new partnerships with existing and/or potential partners; or
• design and test new partnership approaches for research and/or related activities that can result in best practices or models—these can either be adapted by others or have the potential to be scaled up to a regional, national or international level.
