knowledge translation and exchange accelerator grants
brain canada and the alzheimer society of canada are pleased to announce the launch of the knowledge translation and exchange (kte) accelerator grants! the purpose of the kte accelerator grants program is to help accelerate the dissemination of scientific findings on alzheimer’s and related dementias to various audiences beyond academic researchers.
kte accelerator grants are designed to stimulate innovative, out-of-the-box, ideas that ensure research translates into implementation and eventually impact. these grants provide researchers with the funding needed to develop kte products relevant to their work in the field of alzheimer’s and related dementias.
up to $200,000 cad is available for up to three years. total grant amounts are flexible to accommodate the needs required to produce a range of kte products, but the minimum budget allowed is $5,000 cad and the total budget cannot surpass $200,000 cad.
who can apply?
- current and past alzheimer society research program (asrp) grant and award recipients
- current and past recipients of a brain canada funded grant focused on alzheimer’s and related dementias research
- current research leads of the canadian consortium on neurodegeneration in aging (ccna)

operating grant: transcan-3 (transcan-3 joint transnational call for proposals (jtc 2023) in translational research on cancer epigenetics)
the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:
- to improve the efficacy of current detection, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cancers, through the development of novel approaches based on a better understanding of cancer epigenetics.
- to stimulate new partnerships between researchers and clinicians and support original, high-quality projects, with significant clinical impact.
operating grant: data analysis using existing databases and cohorts (2023)
the purpose of this funding opportunity is to support projects that use data from existing canadian-based cohorts, databases, cohort catalogues, and data platforms, and are relevant to human development, child and/or youth health with the goal to inform improved patient, population, and system outcomes.
pogo silva award competition
pogo is offering a funding opportunity dedicated to the memory of dr. mariana silva, made possible by a generous donation by her family, with additional contributions from pogo.* dr. silva was an energetic contributor to the work of pogo, known for her dedication to her patients and to the development of a childhood cancer care system that provided equitable access to high quality care to all who needed it.
the total amount available for this funding opportunity is $200,000 over two years ($100,000 annually). it is expected that one project or two smaller projects will be funded.
the deadline for registration is june 30, 2023 by 5:00pm. interested applicants should fill out the registration form by the deadline expressing their interest to submit a full application. applicants must provide the following information in the registration form:
- project title
- name and institution of the primary investigator
- name of all co-investigators
- a 250 word lay summary of the proposed project
the full application form will be sent to applicants once they have registered their intent to apply. the deadline for submitting the full application is august 20, 2023 by 5:00pm est. please note that applications must be received by the deadline.

alzheimer society research program – proof of concept grants
together with the alzheimer society of canada, brain canada is pleased to announce the letter of intent (loi) stage of the proof of concept grants as part of the 2023 alzheimer society research program (asrp). the asrp provides grants and awards to support canadian research that promises new insights into causes, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
the proof of concept grants are designed to fund innovative, high-risk, and high-reward research that pushes beyond the boundaries of our existing understanding of dementia. interested researchers must first submit a loi in order to be deemed eligible, prior to being invited to submit a full application.
this funding opportunity is open to dementia researchers in canada with new or unique hypotheses. successful applicants can receive up to $100,000 over three years to conduct exploratory research that will positively impact the lives of people living with dementia and their caregivers.

the prestigious royal-mach-gaensslen prize for mental health research is awarded each year to an outstanding rising star researcher in the field of mental health, to recognize, encourage and support them as they pursue their research interests and goals.
the annual national prize provides $100,000 in funding to early-career researchers in canada with a demonstrated track record in research; excellence in scientific rigor, innovative thinking, imagination and originality; and a clear ability to work in partnership with other disciplines and/or research teams external to the institution with which they are affiliated.
