the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

  • establish a multi-stakeholder pediatric cancer consortium which covers the cancer control continuum from prevention to diagnosis, treatment to survivorship that encompasses the breadth of stakeholders and knowledge-users with a transparent, inclusive multi-jurisdictional recruitment and membership process, meaningful engagement with partners and innovative international research collaborations.
  • advance pediatric cancer research through platforms and projects in high priority areas.
  • improve the research pipeline for the development and further access to drugs for children affected by cancer and their families, by working in the context of regulatory frameworks (health canada) for drug approval processes and, with engagement of people with lived/living experience (pwle), influencing system improvements through research and knowledge mobilization. 
  • advance equitable access to new and promising therapies regardless of geography, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.
  • build capacity for the next generation of pediatric cancer researchers through training and mentorship opportunities embedded and interconnected across the consortium and capacity for people with lived and living experience to engage meaningfully in the research ecosystem.
  • maximize research impact and knowledge mobilization within and beyond the consortium to help ensure evidence is integrated in and used to inform health policy, decision making and planning.

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

  • to enhance evidence regarding the adaptation and successful implementation of evidence-based interventions in preventing or reducing exposure to one or more common non-communicable diseases (ncd) risk factors;
  • to increase understanding of key barriers and facilitators (including contextual factors such as poverty, racism, ethnic discrimination, sex/gender differences) to intervention access, uptake, and effectiveness across demographic groups and life stages;
  • to improve capacity for implementation research on ncd prevention;
  • to foster the incorporation of interventions into local, regional or national health policy, including their scale-up and sustainability, with a focus on equitable outcomes; and
  • to support implementation research teams that actively engage partners (i.e., decision makers, indigenous peoples, community groups, and service delivery partners) as an integral part of the entire research process.

launch of round 11 of the ontario research fund -research excellence (orf-re) program

overview

the ministry of colleges and universities has launched round 11 of its ontario research fund -research excellence (orf-re) program.  the overall purpose of this program is to provide research institutions with the funding necessary to support the operational costs of major projects that are of strategic value to the province of ontario.


orf-re program funding ratio and application streams
the orf-re program will provide up to one third of the total cost of a project, with the remaining two thirds coming from a combination of contributions from the private sector and the institution.  the orf-re round 11 call is made up of two application funding streams:

stream 1: general – basic and applied research
this stream:
  • is open to all research disciplines
  • funds projects from $500,000 to $2,000,000
  • funds projects up to a maximum of 5 years
stream 2: targeted – experimental research
this stream:
  • funds projects that demonstrate strong commercialization potential, where the innovation is at a technology readiness level (trl) of 3 or higher
  • targets projects in the following sectors:
  • information communications technologies
  • life sciences and medical devices
  • industrial technologies
  • requires collaboration with an ontario-based company
  • funds projects from $300,000 to $1,000,000
  • funds projects up to a maximum of 4 years
please note that for both of the above streams, priority will be given to applications that are focused on:
  • connected, autonomous, electric vehicles (including battery and powertrain technology) 
  • industrial/mining technologies related to electric vehicles, spanning the entire value chain from minerals to manufacturing to recovering resources from vehicles or their component parts at end-of-life.

 

eligible contributions and expenditures 

from the program guidelines:  "contributions, both in-kind and cash, are eligible if received (but not spent) up to one year before the application due date. since the application due date for this round is march 21, 2022, contributions secured after march 21, 2021 (but not spent) are eligible. expenditures are only eligible after the project starts. the earliest a project can start is september 28, 2021 which is the date the current round was announced."

wenner-gren foundation - funding opportunities (anthropology)

how to apply: 

dissertation fieldwork grants for up to $20,000 are awarded to individuals enrolled in a doctoral program to support dissertation research.  applicants must be engaged in research that contributes to anthropological knowledge. applicants of any nationality or country of residence may apply.

post-ph.d. research grants for up to $20,000 are awarded to individuals holding a ph.d. or equivalent degree to support individual research projects. applicants must be engaged in research that makes a significant contribution to anthropological knowledge, theory and debate. applicants of any nationality or country of residence may apply

fejos postdoctoral fellowships in
ethnographic film provide up to $40,000 towards the completion of an ethnographic film that is based on anthropological research already accomplished by the applicant. the fellowship is awarded to early career scholars, who frequently lack the time and resources they need forfilm production. applicants should be no more than ten years beyond their phd, with allowances made for periods of caregiving, and have a doctorate in anthropology or an equivalent field.

hunt postdoctoral fellowships (writing) provide up to $40,000 towards the writing-up of already completed research. the fellowship is awarded to early career scholars, who frequently lack the time and resources they need to publish their work. applicants should be no more than ten years beyond their phd, with allowances made for periods of caregiving, and have a doctorate in anthropology or an equivalent field.

2022 allied health kidney research grant, allied health doctoral fellowship, allied health kidney scholarship

allied health kidney research grant

the purpose of the allied health kidney research grant is to encourage allied health professionals to pursue research relevant to the areas of nephrology and organ donation, including clinical, health services, social, cultural, environmental and population health research. to be eligible for this grant the principal applicant must be an allied health professional.

the grant can be awarded for up to two years. the project must have a clearly demonstrated relevance and outcome relevant to our mission, and the research must be carried out in canada.

we recommend that researchers with biomedical or basic projects apply to the kidney health research grants competition. post-doctoral fellows are encouraged to apply to the krescent program.

allied health kidney doctoral fellowship

the kidney foundation offers a limited number of fellowships that fund full-time academic study and preparation for research at the doctoral level. the objective of this program is to promote and enhance the development of allied health investigators in canada in the field of nephrology and / or organ donation. fellowships are awarded for amounts up to $31,000/year and can be held in canada or abroad. note that for programs outside canada the applicant must provide a statement indicating their intention to return to canada.

allied health kidney scholarship

the purpose of the allied health kidney scholarship award is to encourage 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 with a demonstrated interest in nephrology and / or organ donation to pursue education at the masters level, and in turn to promote and enhance the development of allied health investigators in the nephrology field in canada.

new frontiers in research fund: 2022 special call – research for postpandemic recovery

how to apply: 

the covid-19 pandemic has had differential impacts on individuals, communities, and countries, intensifying the inequalities that existed before this crisis. globally, numerous voices have been advocating for “building back better” rather than a return to the status quo as the world emerges from this pandemic.

in november 2020, the united nations released the un research roadmap for the covid-19 recovery which encourages “targeted research for data-driven responses that focus particularly on the needs of people being left behind.” the roadmap is built on the premise that innovative and interdisciplinary solutions are needed to account for the interdependence of people and recovery efforts.

the goal of this special call is to mobilize canadian-led research efforts in support of a more equitable, sustainable and resilient postpandemic reality. it will support a diverse portfolio of projects that directly address one or more of the research priorities outlined in the roadmap, including any of the un’s priorities and subpriorities, including but not limited to the “quick-win”, “best-buy” and “game-changer” priorities.

by funding research that directly responds to the un roadmap, nfrf will be part of a cohesive international research effort to address global socio-economic inequities that have been heightened by the covid-19 pandemic.
