innovative financing to shape markets for hiv/aids, malaria and tuberculosis (unitaid)

unitaid is pleased to announce the second call for letters of intent (loi) of its 2013-2016 strategic period, details for which are available here [pdf, 1.29 mb].

unitaid begins the process of soliciting new proposals by first requesting an loi: a short conceptual presentation of a proposed project that is submitted to unitaid electronically using a web-based tool. proponents with successful lois are then invited to submit full proposals for unitaid funding.

this call for lois is open to interventions supporting any one of the six strategic objectives outlined in unitaid’s 2013-2016 strategy. lois must be submitted to unitaid by 17:00 geneva (switzerland) time (gmt+1) on 15 may 2014. proponents will be notified by early june 2014 as to whether they will be invited to submit a full project proposals for unitaid funding. full project proposals will be due in early september 2014.

the ontario problem gambling research centre (opgrc) has recently transitioned to a comprehensive knowledge translation and exchange (kte) organization in order to promote the use of evidence-based knowledge into responsible gambling policy and practice.  opgrc aims to build capacity for kte by working with graduate student researchers in the problem gambling field.  opgrc is offering student fellowship opportunities for 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 to develop and implement a kte strategy related to problem gambling research.  世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will develop their own capacity for kte by gaining an integrated kte learning experience through consultation with the opgrc knowledge broker to plan the strategy, design appropriate tools, and work with stakeholders to exchange valuable messages of the research as well as participating in kte workshops.  世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will also develop project management and communication skills along with an in-depth understanding of the problem gambling field.

value and duration

the student fellowships have a value of $8,000 per academic year. fellowships may be renewed annually for a maximum of two years for a masters degree and three years for a doctorate. in addition recipients are eligible for funding to support capacity development including conference participation.

who is eligible

graduate 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 with a strong interest in problem gambling are encouraged to apply.  eligible 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 must be registered in a masters or doctoral program within an ontario institution, be supported by a graduate faculty advisor, and must be in good standing with the institution.  世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 must be embarking on or engaged in research related to reducing harm from gambling. kte can be incorporated at all stages of the research process, therefore 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 may apply for the 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 hip prior to research being conducted, while research is being conducted, or when the research has been completed; in all cases there must be a strong kte focus of involvement.

strategic network grants fund large-scale, multidisciplinary research projects in targeted research areas that require a network approach and that involve collaboration between academic researchers and canadian-based organizations. the applicant should be an established researcher with a solid track record in collaborative research, student training and grant management, and who demonstrates the leadership and other skills necessary for managing a complex, interdisciplinary, multi-institutional project.

objective

the goal of strategic project grants (spg) is to increase research and training in targeted areas that could strongly enhance canada’s economy, society and/or environment within the next 10 years.

expected results

it is expected that these grants will:

• generate new knowledge/technology with the strong potential to strengthen canada’s industrial base, generate wealth, create employment and/or influence canadian public policy;

ontario centres of excellence (oce) is issuing an open call for proposals from industry associations or industry consortia for its voucher for industry association r&d challenge (via) program to develop, launch and manage joint funding partnerships. via partnerships connect industry associations or formal industry consortia with ontario's publicly funded academic research institutions (universities, colleges and hospitals) to address sector-wide research and development challenges. funding is intended for collaborative research, development and commercialization projects between industry and academia.  funding through the program will be disbursed to ontario publicly funded academic institutions.

the w. garfield weston foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the 2014 early phase clinical trials program this winter.

• goal: to provide support for phase i and iia clinical trials of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases of aging.
• funding: up to $1,500,000 per project up to 4 years, to a maximum of $4.5 million in total for all projects. 
• eligibility: researchers at or above the level of assistant professor or equivalent from registered charitable institutions in canada, and their international collaborators.

the w. garfield weston foundation,  the alzheimer’s association (alz) and the michael j. fox foundation for parkinson’s research (mjff) have recently launched a program to stimulate analyses across the alzheimer’s disease and parkinson’s disease research landscapes to engage in further data analysis of existing cohorts, including, but not limited to, biomarker discovery, standardization of assays, genetic profiles, and imaging modalities.

• goal: to support preliminary pilot research or proof-of-principle studies utilizing data and/or samples from two large biomarker studies, the alzheimer’s disease neuroimaging initiative (adni) and the parkinson’s progression markers initiative (ppmi).
• funding: up to $150,000 per project for up to 2 years to a maximum of $2 million across all projects.  $1 million of this funding is only available to canadian researchers working on translational research.
• eligibility: the program is open to researchers at or above the post-doctoral level or equivalent from registered charitable institutions in canada and the united states.
