global affairs leadership initiative funds: open call for projects

the global arctic leadership initiative (gali) fund is now open for applications! gali, funded by global affairs canada, allows researchers to fund projects that focus on enhancing canada's leadership in the arctic and fostering collaborations in the circumpolar north.

the two funding opportunities include the indigenous and northern collaborative research and education engagement fund and the indigenous and northern relationship development fund.

northern collaborative research and education engagement fund:

the purpose of this fund is to support researchers with established relationships and partnerships in the arctic who are interested in continuing their research and education programs in the region in keeping with the uarctic values, memorial university’s policy on research impacting indigenous groups, and supporting priorities within canada’s arctic and northern policy framework.

this fund is a maximum total of $40,000 over a 2-year duration.

northern relationship development fund:

the purpose of this fund is to help researchers at all uarctic member institutions, those in the north and those in the south, establish new relationships or strengthen the existing ones in order to develop collaborative, co-created research projects based on mutual respect and acknowledgment of the deep understanding and knowledge indigenous and northern people bring to such projects while ensuring that the academic research and engagement projects meet the needs of the people and the regions where such research takes place.

this fund is a maximum total of $15,000 over a 1-year duration.

who can apply for these funds:

uarctic and memorial university encourage engagement between northern canadian uarctic member institutions, other canadian members, and other uarctic member institutions for these initiatives. the lead applicant must come from a canadian arctic/northern uarctic member institution. a complete and updated list of member institutions can be found on the uarctic website.

the objective of the highway infrastructure innovation funding program (hiifp) is to encourage ontario’s academic community to research projects that contribute to generating solutions to current technical challenges encountered by mto in the construction and maintenance of the provincial highway infrastructure network. these research projects are funded through hiifp.

a diverse range of specific research topics have been developed by mto that outline: 1.) the background of the research requirement, 2.) the challenge or problem to be addressed, and 3.) the anticipated outcome and/or research deliverables.

an eligible institution may choose from one of the mto provided specific research topics or submit their own research topic (i.e., an open research topic).

research projects awarded the hiifp grant shall submit a written technical report to be published in the mto online library catalog. the research team will also present their findings to an mto technical committee interested in the specific subject area.

the operating grants program is the principal means by which the cancer research society (crs) fulfills its mission to support fundamental, early translational and environment-cancer research on all types of cancer to contribute to the advancement of science aimed at preventing, detecting and treating this disease.

the crs operating grants competition takes place every year and is open to researchers across canada.

ams healthcare and the canadian society for the history of medicine (cshm) are pleased to offer four three-month 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 hips to undergraduate and ma 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 registered in a canadian university, for a supervised project in the history of medicine. these 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 hips offer awardees an opportunity to learn historical research techniques, and they aim to encourage future study of medical history.

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• support the creation and/or further development of an inclusive, formal network to address selected priority issues related to me;
• encourage national (and if feasible, international) collaboration, methods development, and resource sharing (people and platforms) among multidisciplinary experts;
• engage researchers and other network members who have historically faced barriers in the research ecosystem, including but not limited to those marginalized by gender, indigenous peoples, racialized minorities, persons with disabilities, and members of lgbtq2s+ communities;
• develop and strengthen research capacity by connecting and engaging current researchers and training the next generation of researchers;
• facilitate the mobilization and uptake of existing knowledge and the new knowledge generated by research evidence; and

smart, the eureka cluster focused on advanced manufacturing, has launched their 7th annual call for collaborative research and development project proposals.

smart is a flexible, industry-driven eureka cluster program whose aim is to promote innovative, collaborative, international and close-to-market r&d projects in advanced manufacturing.

the  japan society for the promotion of science (jsps) has established the jsps postdoctoral fellowships for research in japan. a limited number of promising early career researchers are given the opportunity, through this fellowship, to conduct research at japanese universities and in designated research institutions and laboratories. nserc is responsible for recommending canadian nominees for jsps postdoctoral fellowships for research in japan.

the burroughs wellcome fund aims to stimulate the growth of new connections between scholars working in largely disconnected fields who might together change the course of climate change’s impact on human health. over the next two years, we will dedicate $1m to supporting small, early-stage grants of $2,500 - $50,000 toward achieving this goal.

proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis through july 2026. a review will be conducted quarterly.

the fulbright arctic initiative creates a network to stimulate international scientific collaboration on arctic issues while increasing mutual understanding among the people of the arctic council member states. using an interdisciplinary, collaborative model to translate theory into practice, program participants will spend 18 months engaged in addressing public policy research questions relevant to arctic nations' shared challenges. approximately 19 outstanding scholars (at least 4 from the u.s. and at least 1 from each of the other seven arctic council member states) will be selected to participate in the program as fulbright arctic initiative scholars through an open, merit-based competition.

academic researchers in the physical, natural, social, and health sciences, indigenous and local knowledge holders, professionals in the fine arts and liberal arts as well as practitioners working in various disciplines are encouraged to apply.
