the canadian science policy centre is pleased to announce the competition for the 8th cspc youth award. cspc is committed to building capacity and empowering a young generation of scientists and policy makers, to develop their expertise and be able to showcase their talent. we encourage all of you below 35 years of age from any discipline, any sector and at any stage of your career, to apply for this award.

this award recognizes an individual under the age of 35 who proposes an innovative and compelling evidence-based policy proposal that will make a positive difference to canadians. proposals should be connected to one or more of the themes for the cspc 2022 listed here.

this award is designed not only to highlight innovative, evidence-driven policy ideas by policy 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and young professionals, but also to encourage young people not currently studying, or working in public policy to share their policy ideas. eligible recipients include all young canadian residents under 35, regardless of their field of study or work. the cspc is fully committed to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion and encourages all qualified participants to apply.

the petroleum research fund is an endowed fund, managed by the american chemical society that supports fundamental research directly related to petroleum or fossil fuels at nonprofit institutions (generally colleges and universities) in the united states and other countries.

acs petroleum research fund (acs prf) grants are intended as seed money, to enable an investigator to initiate a new research direction. the investigator should not have published or received financial support from another funding agency for the proposed research. also, proposals that the acs prf committee feels are a logical extension of an investigator’s previous research may be denied as “not a new direction.”

description of the funding

the work integration social enterprises (wise) program will support research projects. these projects will investigate the extent to which social enterprises assist black and other racialized canadians overcome socioeconomic barriers. the findings will help determine if social enterprises are appropriate providers to assist these underrepresented groups.

eligible organizations can apply for a maximum of $550,000.  we expect that successful projects will begin as early as march 2023. research projects must end by march 31, 2027.

the government of canada reserves the right to accept an application for funding in whole or in part and give priority to factors such as geographic coverage and official languages requirements.

objective

the objective of this process is to assess the extent to which social enterprises contribute to the social and labour market integration of black and racialized canadians. this open call for proposal (cfp) will fund organizations that will carry out a longitudinal study. they must answer the following policy research questions:

• what are the characteristics of social enterprises serving black and racialized groups?
• what are the characteristics of the clients of these social enterprises?
• how and to what extent these social enterprises help promote the social and labour market integration of black and racialized persons in canada?
  • for example: improvement in employment, mental health, wellbeing and other socio-economic outcomes

the british academy’s visiting fellowships programme provides outstanding academics based in any country overseas with the opportunity to be based at a uk higher education or other research institution. the programme is open to academics at any career stage, and in any discipline within the humanities and social sciences.

aims

visiting fellowships illustrate the british academy’s profound and on-going commitment to international engagement. the aim of this programme is to ensure that the uk remains an attractive, welcoming, and productive research environment for academics globally. through this programme, the academy aims to:

• enhance and build new links between scholars from around the globe and in the uk;
• foster opportunities and encourage the development of new and future partnerships for collaborative research into the humanities and social sciences;
• enable academics from across the globe to undertake research and/or professional development with uk colleagues;
• strengthen the uk’s research bases in the humanities and the social sciences.

eligibility requirements

visiting fellows must be of postdoctoral level or above, or have equivalent research experience at the time of application. candidates should be based outside of the uk at the time of application. applicants may be on permanent or fixed-term contracts. fixed-term contracts must not end before the end date of the visiting fellowship. independent scholars are also welcome to apply.

applicants must demonstrate that they have been in contact with their uk host institution prior to applying. please note that the british academy is not able to assist with locating of facilitating contact with a uk host institution.

the wsib research and grants program aims to enhance workplace injury and illness insurance system outcomes by supporting innovative proposals that help advance our strategic mandate. the proposals funded through the program will help to strengthen ontario's workers' compensation system and deliver on our priority of making ontario a safer place to work.

the 2023 research and grants program will focus on research that can help make ontario the safest place to work. four considerations for the competition include:

the research and grants program is committed to supporting the wsib’s strategic priority of effective management through the operating practices of the program on an ongoing basis.

applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that align to the topics of interest identified. highly practical research and training proposals aligned to the four primary considerations are also accepted.

the nserc awards for science promotion recognize individuals and groups who are inspirational in the way they promote science to the general public.

science promotion activities with award potential could include

• organizing science camps, fairs, clubs or mentorship programs with youth organizations
• enhancing equity, diversity and inclusion in existing programming
• creating new learning materials
• sharing best practices for outreach in science and engineering
• developing science and engineering-related co-op programs or job shadowing initiatives
• arranging demonstrations, visits and lectures
• writing books and articles
• creating radio or television programs
• generating public involvement through multimedia programs

eligibility

candidates must be nominated by a canadian citizen or permanent resident of canada; posthumous or self-nominations will not be accepted. nserc strongly encourages nominators to consider equity, diversity and inclusion in their nomination process.* nominators may be colleagues or people who have benefited from the nominee’s contributions, such as teachers, parents, community members or administrators. note: for nominations within postsecondary institutions, senior administrators within the institution can nominate an individual or group, as long as the award does not directly benefit the nominators.

nominees for the individual award must be canadian citizens or permanent residents of canada. nominees for the group award can be any registered non-profit organization, postsecondary institution, non-federal museum, science centre or company within canada. current nserc council members are not eligible for nomination.

all nominees must have made a successful and sustained effort to encourage public interest in, and an understanding of, the natural sciences and engineering (including math and technology) in canada. as a guideline, nominees have typically been involved in science promotion over the course of at least five years, and their endeavours must be outside the formal education system.

past winners of an nserc award (or a michael smith award) for science promotion are not eligible to be nominated a second time. exceptions may be made for individuals or groups who are, or were, linked with an organization that has previously won an nserc award (or a michael smith award) for science promotion. in order to qualify, the achievements of any nominee (group or individual) must be distinct from those of the previous award winner. such nominations must include a letter from the organization confirming the distinct nature of the activities.
