knowledge synthesis grants: evolving narratives of cultures and histories

how to apply: 

the social sciences and humanities research council of canada (sshrc) has launched a knowledge synthesis grants funding opportunity to assess the state of research knowledge on the topic of evolving narratives of cultures and histories under sshrc’s imagining canada’s future initiative. sshrc has partnered with canadian heritage, genome canada, and uk research and innovation’s arts and humanities research council to fund up to $1.2 million to synthesize knowledge on this theme.

 

we have joined together to support research that will foster a deeper understanding of the state of knowledge about the global challenge of evolving narratives of cultures and histories. successful applicants may explore topics such as loss of minority languages, traditions and historical narratives in an increasingly homogenized world.

 

this international funding opportunity will include two streams:

 

  • stream 1 will be reserved for applications submitted by an applicant or project director affiliated with an eligible canadian institution.
  • stream 2 will be reserved for applications jointly submitted by two applicants or project directors, one based in canada and the other in the uk, who are affiliated with eligible institutions in their respective countries. 

the resulting syntheses will identify roles that the academic, public, private and not-for-profit sectors could play in promoting more inclusive and equitable societies and can inform the development of effective tools and technologies, robust policies and sustainable practices required to support the path toward a diverse and inclusive future for all.

the deadline for applications is december 14, 2023.

r. k. dewar medical research grant fund and other opportunities

how to apply: 
please note that the thunder bay community foundation (tbcf) call for proposals is now open for its various funding opportunities.
 
the tbcf offers one specific research grant:  dr. r. k. dewar medical research grant fund:   the dr. r. k. dewar medical research grant was established in 1987 by ms. helen dewar to honour the life and work of her brother, dr. robert kerr dewar. dr. dewar had faith in the future and progress of medical science and had a keen interest in cutting edge research of his day. he was particularly interested in neuro-regeneration and molecular biology
  • as a research grant, applicants applying this opportunity would have their application reviewed by the office of research.
regarding the tbcf's other programs (please see the attached document), these programs are not research related, but fall more under the purview of the office of external relations.  therefore, if any of the tbcf's other funding opportunities (besides the r.k. dewar medical research grant) are of interest, please contact the office of research services (ahacquo1@lakeheadu.ca) as soon as possible to indicate your interest in a particular tbcf program.   it can then be confirmed with external relations that the university is not already submitting an application to the same tbcf program.   in such a case, the 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 external relations submission could take precedence.  if external relations was not already applying to a particular fund the office of research services would then review their submission and help to submit it.

new horizons for seniors program 2023-2024 - community engagement

how to apply: 

the community-based stream of the new horizons for seniors program (nhsp) is a federal grant that supports community-based projects that are designed by seniors for seniors. this program funds projects that empower seniors in their communities and contribute to improving their health and well-being.  eligible organizations can apply for up to $25,000 for projects that are led by seniors and are volunteer based.

projects submitted for this grant (up to $25,000) must meet at least 1 of the following program objectives:

  • promoting volunteerism among seniors and other generations
  • engaging seniors in the community through the mentoring of others
  • expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse
  • supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors
  • providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors

if your proposed project is requesting capital assistance, it must meet at least 1 of the first 4 program objectives.

organizations can only submit 1 application per project. multiple projects may not exceed a total of $25,000 per organization. 
 
therefore, researchers interested in submitting a proposal to this program are required to submit an expression of interest to the ors  (ahacquoi@lakeheadu.ca) by august 21, 2023, which would include a summary of their proposal as well as an estimated budget.

imagining canada’s future ideas lab: global health and wellness for the 21st century - stage 2: call for funding applications (by invitation only)

how to apply: 

the imagining canada’s future ideas lab is a multi-stage funding opportunity. stage 1 consisted of a hybrid workshop where participants formed multidisciplinary teams, then developed and pitched innovative, interdisciplinary project ideas on the theme of global health and wellness for the 21st century.

teams are now invited to apply for funding to support the development of their partnerships and advance their project ideas in this second stage of the icf ideas lab.

successful applicants will be expected to:

  • formalize partnerships through agreements, governance frameworks and/or strategic plans;
  • establish connections with stakeholders in relevant sectors;
  • advance their project by undertaking preliminary research;
  • attend a working forum organized by sshrc (tentatively scheduled for fall 2024–winter 2025);
  • seek out full project funding from sshrc and other research agencies at the end of the two-year grant.

operating grant: addressing infectious and congenital syphilis in canada

the aim of this funding opportunity is to advance collaborative partnerships with communities focused on implementation science and intervention research to reduce the transmission and health impacts of infectious and congenital syphilis.

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

  • advance community-centred approaches to conducting implementation science and intervention research by establishing meaningful partnerships between communities most affected by rising rates of syphilis — particularly indigenous, those in the prairies and rural, remote and isolated communities — and health researchers from academic or other research institutions;
  • accelerate knowledge mobilization across the continuum of care between populations that are disproportionately affected and health care providers, community organizations, decision/policy makers and researchers by supporting the co-creation, synthesis, application and sharing of research findings; and
  • improve health equity by conducting research that addresses the systemic, social and behavioural causes of health inequities in our health system that have contributed to the rise in syphilis within specific populations including indigenous and rural, remote and isolated communities.
