how to apply: 

the objective of idea to innovation (i2i) grants is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector, and to promote its transfer to a new or established canadian company. i2i grants provide funding to college and university faculty members to support research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential. this is achieved through defined phases by providing crucial assistance in the early stages of technology validation and market connection.

new horizons for seniors program – pan-canadian stream

how to apply: 

the objective is to invite eligible organizations to submit an application that broadly describes a concept for a collective impact plan that will measurably increase the social inclusion of vulnerable seniors.

this process aims to:

  • build the collective capacity of organizations to recognize and address barriers to social inclusion faced by vulnerable seniors
  • provide access to information, programs, and services for vulnerable seniors to enhance their social inclusion within their communities
  • support services to seniors as part of action research to better understand effective approaches for increasing the level of social inclusion of vulnerable seniors in their communities
  • develop innovative approaches to engage and keep senior volunteers to improve their social inclusion in their communities
  • address systemic barriers that contribute to the social isolation of vulnerable seniors

please note that as an eligible organization can only submit one application to this call, interested applicants are asked to notify the office of research (ahacquo1@lakeheadu.ca) no later than october 17 indicating their interest in this opportunity.

call for proposals under natural resources canada’s climate-resilient coastal communities (crcc) program

how to apply: 

the crcc program will support pilot projects to enable communities and sectors to work together to develop coordinated solutions to climate change risks in coastal regions. there is a total of $30 million to support up to 25 regional-scale pilot projects on canada’s three marine coasts and in the great lakes – st. lawrence region. selected pilot projects will represent diverse economic, social, and environmental conditions and different types of adaptation actions across canada. further, the crcc results will have national benefit by providing evidence and learning to inform adaptation approaches and actions in other regions across the country.

the open call for proposals will provide contribution funding for pilot projects that accelerate adaptation at a regional-scale through integrated, inclusive, and innovative actions. please visit the call for proposals webpage for more information about eligibility and funding requirements, and to download the applicant guide and application form. projects would be implemented between april 1, 2024, and december 31, 2027. the deadline to apply under this stream is december 13, 2023.

there is an indigenous-led project call for proposal stream for eligible indigenous applicants who require additional support and/or time to develop their proposals outside of the open call for proposals process. the government of canada may fund up to 100% of total indigenous-led project costs under both streams. interested applicants are invited to contact adaptation@nrcan-rncan.gc.ca for more information.

the kidney foundation offers a limited number of fellowships that fund full-time academic study and preparation for research at the doctoral level. the objective of this program is to promote and enhance the development of allied health investigators in canada in the field of nephrology and / or organ donation. fellowships are awarded for amounts up to $31,000/year and can be held in canada or abroad. note that for programs outside canada the applicant must provide a statement indicating their intention to return to canada.

allied health kidney research grant

how to apply: 

the purpose of the allied health kidney research grant is to encourage allied health professionals to pursue research relevant to the areas of nephrology and organ donation, including clinical, health services, social, cultural, environmental and population health research. to be eligible for this grant the principal applicant must be an allied health professional.

the grant can be awarded for up to two years. the project must have a clearly demonstrated relevance and outcome relevant to our mission, and the research must be carried out in canada.

we recommend that researchers with biomedical or basic projects apply to the kidney health research grants competition. post-doctoral fellows are encouraged to apply to the krescent program.

fulbright-nato security studies award

how to apply: 
the fulbright-nato security studies award, a component of the fulbright visiting scholar program, aims to foster awareness and understanding of nato and to increase the level of debate on peace, security, and defense-related issues. this award funds post-doctoral researchers, professors and professionals to conduct research and/or lecture at a u.s. institution for a period of three months in fields of study with a connection to nato, including but not limited to cybersecurity, military history, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, peace and security, security studies, and transatlantic studies.

endgame leader awards - junior investigator award

how to apply: 

the junior investigator grant is for emergent leaders in hiv inquiry who are preparing to establish a hiv program of data, evidence-sharing, and impact. junior investigators must be committed to collaboration with other ohtn-funded leaders and stakeholders. projects should be relevant to the areas of rapid learning and improvement. their program of data, evidence-sharing, and impact should aim to fill knowledge gaps in hiv prevention and care or evaluate interventions to improve programs and services.
